CDA to install officers Monday

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas will be having installations of officers during the 5:30 p.m. Mass Monday at Holy Redeemer.

Following Mass there will be a short business meeting; there will not be any lunch or refreshments served due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

Two nuns seized by Islamic rebels Mozambique released

ROME (AP) — Two Roman Catholic nuns held for more than three weeks by rebels affiliated with the Islamic State group in Mozambique have been released, the nuns’ religious order announced Thursday.

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery said Brazilian nuns Maria Inez Leite Ramos and Eliane Costa Santana were freed on Sept. 6. The order said in a statement that the two sisters were resting and receiving medical checks outside the Cabo Delgado region of Mozambique where they were seized.

Church known for its architecture lands grant for repairs

COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) — A historic Indiana church that became one of the nation’s first Modernist churches in the 1940s has landed a $500,000 grant to repair its iconic bell tower.

The grant from the National Park Service moves First Christian Church closer to the $2.4 million needed to repair the Columbus church’s 160-foot tower.
