Faith Briefs for March 20

Holy Redeemer Church announces changes

Bishop John LeVoir of the New Ulm Diocese decided that all “public” Masses would be suspended until March 31. Because Holy Redeemer has the option to “live stream” Masses over the Internet, the weekday and weekend Masses will be said at the times they are normally scheduled, and live streamed over the Internet. The Bishop has given a dispensation (removal of the obligation to assist at a weekend Mass) through that date.

Stations of the Cross and Confessions at the times they were scheduled will continue. For those who attend Stations of the Cross, please “socially distance” yourselves, or come on your own to pray them individually, outside of scheduled times.

Holy Redeemer Church will be open for people to visit and pray, from its usual time of 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. The CRC (Campus Religious Center) chapel will continue to be open for people to pray as well.

Perpetual Adoration – Beginning next week on Sunday, March 22 at 5 p.m., Adoration will be in St. Mary’s Chapel of Holy Redeemer School instead of the St. Joseph Chapel. Please use the same door to enter and sign in for your hour on the iPad, as before. The larger school chapel will give people an opportunity to “socially distance” as well.

A few bulletins for this weekend will be printed for people to pick up if they are not able to download bulletins from the parish website. Next week, until public Masses resume, they will not be published. Updates, notification and posts will continue to be made on the parish website and Facebook page.

Religious education — weekly lessons will be sent out for parents to do with their children.

LeVoir said that all funerals are to be private and not public, that is, for the immediate family only and for the priest or deacon who is the celebrant. The Rite of Christian Funerals Within or Outside of Mass may be used. There should be no public wake or vigil prayer services. No luncheon or dinner should be served in the church hall after the funeral. However, burials can be scheduled along with the accompanying prayers.

The celebration of infant Baptisms should also follow the ten-person limit.

Jesus Cares Bible study postponed

The Jesus Cares Bible study is postponed. We will follow the school closing guidelines as per the governor’s directives. When and if school resumes in the physical building we will also resume classes at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church on our regular schedule.
