Faith Briefs for Sept. 21

Alzheimer’s informational meeting at Christ Lutheran Church

Christ Lutheran Church will offer a presentation that provides information that families and friends will want to know as they care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease. The event titled: “It’s Alzheimer’s — It’s Time for Extraordinary Love,” will be in the church basement on Saturday, Sept. 28. The presentation will be from 9 a.m.-noon. The doors will be open at 8:30 a.m. for same day registration.

The Rev. Curt Seefeldt, director of church relations for The Lutheran Home Association, will facilitate discussion on Alzheimer’s diagnosis, treatment options, answers to spiritual questions and family care. Participants will leave with a better understanding of how to provide emotional and spiritual support to all who are affected by the disease. Everyone is invited to attend. There is no charge for the event.

The church is located at 208 W. Marshall. To register or to obtain more information, call 507- 532-2162 or email: christluth@christlutheran-marshallmn.org.

Seefeldt has written “It’s Alzheimer’s — It’s Time for Extraordinary Love,” published by The Lutheran Home Association (TLHA). Written in everyday language, this booklet provides useful tips to help individuals understand how the disease progresses, how family and friends can provide quality care, how to approach the necessary legal and financial adjustments and reassurance from God’s Word.

A Bible study and leader’s guide is also available for congregational and individual use. In addition, TLHA offers a DVD produced by AboutAlzOrg in partnership with Alliance for Aging Research that describes the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

To order a free copy of the booklet or DVD, contact Shari Klatt at sklatt@tlha.org. The Bible study and leader’s guide are available as a free download at TLHA’s website, www.tlha.org. Select Services, Resources, and then Alzheimer’s Resources.
