Amateur baseball roundup July 16, 2025
Lamberton 7, Springfield 6
LAMBERTON — Will Carlson scored Neil Eichten on an 11th-inning walk-off to give the Lamberton Long Sox a 7-6 win over Springfield in Tomahawk East play on Wednesday.
Both teams went scoreless in the 10th inning after ending regulation tied, and the Tigers went down in order in the top of the 11th. In the bottom of the frame, however, Eichten reached on an error with one out, advanced when Ty Altermatt reached on another error and scored on a Carlson single to end the game with a Lamberton victory.
Lamberton trailed by a pair of runs heading into the bottom of the ninth. Yet, Jacob Jenniges and Eichten got on base with a single and a walk, and Altermatt came up with a two-run single to tie the game at 6-6 and force extra innings.
Brady Bierl recorded the win on the mound for Lamberton, throwing 2 1/3 shutout innings. He struck out five batters while limiting Springfield to one walk and no hits.
Eli Fest gave up three earned runs on six hits and three walks over his six-inning start, also striking out nine batters, while Quintyn Vold gave up two earned runs on two hits and three walks with three strikeouts over 2 2/3 innings.
Lamberton got off to a hot start with four first-inning runs but the bats went quiet from there, not scoring again until Altermatt’s two-run single in the ninth.
Springfield scored a pair of second-inning runs and another run in the sixth before taking the lead with a pair of seventh-inning runs.
Lamberton improves to 13-6 on the year and hosts Essig for its regular-season finale on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Madison 7, Minneota 4
MADISON — The Minneota Mudhens couldn’t keep pace with the bats of the Madison Mallards in a Wednesday night Land O’ Ducks matchup. The Mallards strung together four runs across the fifth and sixth innings to gain enough breathing room to hold on for the win, downing the Mudhens 7-4.
Morris took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, Carter Amland walked and scored the go-ahead run on an RBI double from Blake Wollschlager. Matt Arndt then took over as a pinch runner for Wollschlager and scored on a Dylan Lillejord single to make the score 4-2, though the rally ended on the play with Lillejord trying to extend the hit to a double.
Minneota got a run back in the sixth when AJ Myhre singled and scored on a wild pitch, but the offense stagnated from there and Madison held Minneota off the board enough to hold on for the win.
An Isaac Pohlen single, Dalager getting hit by a pitch and Jackson Lacek walking loaded the bases for Minneota with no outs in the top of the ninth. Yet, a strikeout put one away, Gillund grounded out to drive in one run, and another ground out ended the game with the Mudhens still trailing 7-4..
Adam Dalager tied up the score at two runs apiece when he led off the fifth inning with a single. A bunt and a ground out put Dalager on third base with two outs, and Peyton Gillund came up with the game-tying RBI single.
Brody Larson came in for 1 1/3 innings of relief and was charged with the loss after giving up four earned runs on two hits and four walks.
Madison put the nail in the coffin in the bottom of the sixth. Avan Kells walked, was replaced by Kadyn Fernholz on first base on a fielder’s choice, and additional walks to Dyllon Geiser and Dylan Keimig loaded the bases with one out.
Gillund took over for the final two outs of the inning, but the damage was done. Gillund got Landon Schim to ground out and Brandon Hill to fly out to give him two outs with two batters faced. Yet, on run scored on Schim’s fielder’s choice and another scored on a passed ball to make the score 6-3 in favor of the Mallards.
Gillund went on to pitch 1 2/3 shutout innings of Hitless relief, striking out three batters while walking three. Myhre also gave up one earned run on three walks and a hit in the eighth inning.
Dalager pitched the first four innings for Minneota, giving up two earned runs on a pair of hits and a pair of walks with seven strikeouts before exiting with a no-decision.
Madison jumped out to an early lead when Wollschlager was hit by a pitch before scoring on a two-out single by Geiser in the second, and Amland followed up with a solo home run in the third to give Madison each of the game’s first two runs.
Austin Buysse gave Minneota its first run in the fourth inning when he singled, advanced to third on a Myhre single and scored on a Tate Walerius sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Hill gave up two earned runs on four hits and a walk in his five-inning start for Madison, striking out five batters before being relieved by Wollschlager.
Minneota will wrap up its regular season on Friday when it goes on the road to take on the Ortonville Rox at 7:30 p.m.

Morris 5, Dawson 2
MORRIS — Quality pitching from Braden Thompson wasn’t enough to earn the Dawson Drakes a win on Wednesday night, falling 5-2 to the Morris Eagles in Land O’ Ducks play.
Dawson cut its two-run deficit in half in the top of the sixth. Grayson Olson led off the frame with a single, advanced to second on a Thompson single and scored on a Nate Hansen single to put the Drakes on the scoreboard.
Yet, Morris responded quickly. Zach Bruns singled with two outs in the sixth inning before scoring on an Ozzy Jerome double. Morris continued to rally as Mac Beyer hit an RBI single to claim a 4-1 lead.

Brady Jergenson doubled the Morris advantage in the fifth when he was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a passed ball to make the score 2-0.
Braxton Thompson pitched one inning of relief for Dawson, giving up one earned run on two hits.
