FAIRMONT – The Marshall boys’ soccer team went on the road to take a 2-0 victory against Fairmont Tuesday night, courtesy of a brace from Luis Ulloa and a stellar performance in goal from Alex Melendez-Gomez.
Melendez-Gomez was a brick wall in goal on the night. The Cardinals couldn’t get anything by him, and he finished with 11 saves on the night. The talent and confidence of Melendez-Gomez in goal has grown significantly as the season progressed, and this performance gives hope that he can keep his team in games as the Tigers near the postseason.
Luis Ulloa has shined all season for the Marshall attack, and the game against Fairmont was no different. He scored a goal in each half, with the latter coming off an assist from Mohamud Ahmed.
The Marshall Tigers (12-3) will wrap up their regular season Saturday on the road against New Prague at noon.
