MARSHALL – The Tigers tennis team took three of the four singles matches en route to a 4-3 victory over Redwood Valley Monday night. The win is the Tigers’ fifth in the last six games, marking a major up-tick in their success on the court.

“Early in the season, we had a lot of players that did not have a lot of experience. We really stressed early on that it was about how we finished, not how we start,” Marshall head coach Alex Cleppe said. “Just getting them comfortable playing, getting confident hitting the ball, it’s been growth. It’s been fun progress to see.”

Regan Loft, Taylor DePover, and Siri Christensen each won their singles matches in straight sets. Loft came up big in a second-set tiebreaker to win 6-3, 7-6 (12). DePover and Christensen each won their matches handily, finishing with scores of 6-3, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1 respectively.

Eliza Holmgren and Olivia Penske won the doubles match that put Marshall over the top for the win, 7-5, 6-4.

Cecily Aufenthie and Taylor Miller lost their doubles match 6-1, 6-2, and Naomi Schroeder lost her singles match 6-1, 6-1.

Reese Graven and Reagan Boerboom fell short in a tiebreaker set to drop their doubles match 6-4, 5-7, 12-10.

The win over Redwood Valley comes on the tail of a 5-2 win over Montevideo Friday in which the Tigers swept their way through the doubles matches. Reese Graven and Reagan Boerboom won 6-3, 7-5, Eliza Homgren and Aubre Schaefer won 6-2, 7-6 (8), and Taylor Miller and Cecily Aufenthie finished strong in consecutive sets that went to tiebreakers with scores of 7-6 (0), 7-6 (7).

In addition to the trio of doubles wins, Regan Loft and Taylor DePover each also won their singles matches against Montevideo.

The Tigers (9-9) will go on the road to face Blue Earth today at 4:30 p.m. with the chance to wrap up their season with a winning record.

Starting at $3.95/week.
