COTTONWOOD — The Cottonwood amateur baseball team hoped to get its season going in the right direction when they faced Dumont on Saturday. But the Saints had other ideas, and used a strong start and never looked back to earn an 11-1 victory.

The Saints jumped all over the Cardinals, scoring multiple runs in the first few innings. The Saints maintained the lead and expanded it to 10 by the ninth inning before ultimately winning by the same margin at 11-1. The Cardinals couldn’t get many runners on base as the Saints pitching/defense was dominant the entire game.

Cottonwood manager Jason Fischer spoke on team’s performance in the loss.

“I thought we pitched decent but they pitched really well and we weren’t able to get any hits,” Fischer said. “We have to get more hits, our pitching has come along so we just have to focus on getting better and more hits.”
