PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall boys hockey uses late goals to take out Worthington, 2-0

WORTHINGTON — The Marshall boys hockey team defeated Worthington 2-0 on Tuesday.

After neither team could find scoring in the first two periods, Marshall got on the board on a goal from Braxton Meyer with 12:29 left to make it 1-0 before adding a goal from Talan Plante on the assist by Sean Nwaiga and Jared Reinsma to bring it to the 2-0 final.

Gavin Welsh earned the victory in net for Marshall.

Marshall (13-10) will face Albert Lea at home on Monday at 7 p.m.

GRANITE FALLS — The Yellow Medicine East boys basketball team fell to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 80-45 on Tuesday.

Owen Torvik led YME with eight points while Isaac Jimenez, Archie LaRose and Bryce Sneller each recorded six. Torvik led in rebounds with six while Cody Dahlager led in assists with four.

Drew Werkman led RTR with 16 points while Blake Christianson added 15, Cody Wichmann had 12 and Aiden Wichmann had 10. Camden Hansen led in rebounds with four while Aiden Wichmann led in assists with seven.

YME (3-14) will face TMB on the road on Friday at 7:15 p.m. while RTR (15-5) will face Minneota on the road on Friday at 7:15 p.m.

Paige Nelson and Aidyn Bruns led Canby with five points each while Elysa Wollum, Kortney Leppke and Brynn Kockelman each added four. Maya Wente led in rebounds with 10 and in assists with four.

Ireland Stassen led Minneota with 18 points while Natalee Rolbiecki added 11 and McKenna Yost had eight. No other Minneota stats were available at press time.

Canby (11-10) will face YME on the road on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. while Minneota (22-2) will face TMB on the road on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

Christian Tentinger led MCC with 13 points while Nate Kleven added 12 and Tanner Graphenteen had 10. Tentinger also led in rebounds with six while Chant Mitchell led in assists with four.

MCC (10-10) will face WWG at home on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

MONTGOMERY — The Marshall wrestling team went 2-1 at the Tri-City United Invite on Friday, defeating Sibley East 58-18 and Tri-City United 34-32 and falling to St. Peter 33-32.

Against Sibley East, Noah Frazee, Gavin Schaefer, Keiton Walerius and Caleb Witte won by forfeit, Brayden Chandler, Collin Klenken, Dylan Louwagie, Tate Condezo and Tucker Fiene won by fall and Drew Chandler won by major decision for Marshall.

Against TCU, Landon Marthaler and Lukas Stelter won by fall, Walerius won by forfeit, Dawson DeCamp and Louwagie won by decision and Brayden Chandler and Fiene won by tech fall for Marshall.

Against St. Peter, Marthaler, Drew Chandler and Walerius won by fall, DeCamp and James Gednalske won by decision and Louwagie and Aidan Mattison won by major decision for Marshall.

Louwagie also recorded his 150th career victory during the meet.

Marshall will compete next on Thursday against TMB at 5 p.m. at SMSU.
