MARSHALL — The Marshall Tigers girls basketball team looked to honor its seniors with a strong outing on Tuesday against Jackson County Central. Marshall did just that, using a solid offensive performance to earn an 80-52 victory.

Prior to Tuesday’s contest, Marshall’s four seniors (Danya Estrada, Megan Wegner, Andrea Jones and Ashleigh Steinbach) were recognized. Marshall Tigers head coach Dan Westby spoke on the impact of the seniors on the program.

“It’s been a great group of seniors, they have been really committed,” Westby said. “There are just so many things this group does for us not only on the court but off the court that we’re really gonna miss.”

Marshall started off the game slow and didn’t rebound the ball well on the defensive end, allowing multiple opportunities for the Huskies to score. The Tigers would tighten up the rebounding and close the half on a 30-15 run, giving them a 45-26 advantage at halftime. Despite the lead, coach Westby was displeased about the rebounding.

“It felt like we rebounded poorly in the first half,” Westby said. “Gave them too many second-chance opportunities.”

In the second half, the Tigers would cruise and never let the lead get under 15 points. Steinbach scored a game-high 23 points and added a team-high six assists followed by her teammate Brianna Simpson who scored 21 points.

Coach Westby allocated praise on Steinbach’s night.

“She’s shot the ball well consistently all year,” Westby said. “We’re certainly going to need that moving forward.”

Huskies forward Sadie Voss led her team in scoring with 21 points.

Marshall (18-4) will travel next to Pipestone to face off against the Arrows on Friday night at 7:15 p.m.
