SMSU VOLLEYBALL: SMSU annual ‘Red Out’ set for Friday

MARSHALL — The Southwest Minnesota State University’s women’s volleyball program will host the ninth annual “Red Out”, presented by Avera, this Friday night against Minnesota State starting at 6 p.m. inside the PE Gym.

All fans in attendance are encouraged to wear red in support of awareness for heart disease. The first 600 fans through the gates will receive a free “Red Out” t-shirt.

“Heart disease is the number one killer of women,” said Terry Culhane, SMSU head volleyball coach. “Our volleyball team and staff would like to continue to bring awareness and help educate others about this serious disease. This annual event is for the benefit of others in the efforts in fighting heart disease.”

Culhane, who suffered a heart attack in 2010, felt that his experience offered a unique opportunity for his volleyball program to help educate the public about this deadly disease.

Southwest Minnesota State, ranked No. 14 in this week’s national Top 25, is 15-4 overall, 7-4 NSIC. Following Friday’s match, SMSU will face Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday starting at 2 p.m.
