SMSU GOLF: Six Mustangs earn WGCA scholar award

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) announced on Monday a total of six Southwest Minnesota State University golfers have been selected to the 2020-21 Division II WGCA All-America Scholar Team.

Named to the team include SMSU senior Hannah Kohls, junior Anneke Weg, sophomore Sally Gallagher, sophomore Sydney Noel, sophomore Natalie Bohnert and freshman Jacqueline Gossen.

A total of 1,432 women golfers in Division I, II, and III earned the honor. The criteria for selection to the All-Scholar Team include a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average.

Kohls, from Forest Lake, has compiled a GPA of 3.50 in accounting and finance. She led SMSU this spring with an 82.5 average in 11 rounds with a pair of top five finishes.

Weg, a native of Worthington, has a GPA of 3.87 in biology. She finished with an 89.4 average in 11 rounds during the 2021 season.

Bohnert, a native of Petersburg, Ind., carries a 3.50 GPA in biology and closed the 2021 season playing in six rounds and finished with a 91.5 average.

Gallagher, a native of Moville, Iowa, finished her second year at SMSU with a GPA of 3.81 in physical education & teaching. She closed the season with an 85.6 average in 11 rounds.

Noel, a native of Northfield, has earned a 3.64 GPA in art education. She played in six rounds this season and finished with a 92.8 average.

Gossen finished her first season at SMSU with a 4.0 GPA. The Brooten, native played in all 11 rounds this spring and finished with an 88.8 average.

The Women’s Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women’s collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition.

Today, the WGCA represents over 650 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
