AREA SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall falls to Kilowatts 6-5 in 15-inning marathon

MARSHALL — The Marshall amateur baseball team fell to Granite Falls 6-5 in 15 innings on Sunday.

Matt Hmielewski led Marshall with five hits while Alex Thompson added a hit and two RBI, Ryan VanMoer had a hit and an RBI, Logan Terfehr had a hit and Mason Penske and Zach Olson each had an RBI.

Olson took the loss in relief, allowing one run on one hit and struck out one in an inning of work. Penske threw the first 14 innings, giving up five runs on 12 hits and struck out 20.

Jordan Odegard led Granite Falls with four hits and an RBI while Brandon Grund added three hits and an RBI, Colton Vien had a hit and two RBI and Cam Vien and Markus Kranz each had a hit and an RBI.

Dalton Anderson earned the victory in relief, going 8 1/3 innings while allowing no runs on two hits and struck out five. Bennett Knapper earned the start, going 6 2/3 innings while allowing five runs on six hits and struck out six.

Marshall (6-9) will face Minneota at home on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. while Granite Falls (3-3) will face Bird Island at home on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Milroy Yankees 10, Willmar 2

MILROY — The Milroy Yankees amateur baseball team defeated Willmar 10-2 on Sunday.

Andy Schmidt led the Yankees with a hit and three RBI while Branden Flock added two hits and two RBI, Matt Bauer and Jake Tauer each had two hits and Jackson Hughes had a hit and two RBI.

Isaac Schmitt earned the victory on the mound, going seven innings while allowing two runs on five hits and struck out nine.

The Yankees (9-2) will play in the Green Isle tournament next weekend.

Thursday track and field

Section 3A championships

REDWOOD FALLS — Multiple area track and field teams competed in the Section 3A championships on Thursday, with several area athletes qualifying for the state meet.

Girls

On the girls side, Canby/Minneota tied for fifth with a team score of 52 points while Murray County Central took eighth (33), Tracy-Milroy-Balaton took ninth (32), Lakeview tied for 15th (16), Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd took 18th (8), Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove took 20th (7.5) and Russell-Tyler-Ruthton and Yellow Medicine East tied for 22nd (5). Luverne took first with a team score of 102 to clinch its ticket to state.

Canby/Minneota

For Canby/Minneota, Grace Drietz qualified as an individual in both the 800 meters and 1600 meters, taking first in the 800 with a time of 2:16.49 and second in the 1600 with a time of 5:01.96. Drietz is also part of the 4×400 meter relay team (Drietz, RyAnn Hansen, Claire Stoks and Braelyn Merritt) that qualified with a second-place time of 4:10.17. In the high jump, Aidyn Bruns took first to qualify with a height of 5-02.

In the 1600 meters, Stoks took third with a time of 5:39.74 while McKenzie Ruether took 13th with a time of 6:06.91. In the 100 meter hurdles, Natalie Bach took 14th with a time of 19.21 seconds while Merritt took fifth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 49.27 seconds and Nohemi Diaz took ninth with a time of 51.90 seconds. In the 4×100 meter relay, the team of Elysa Wollum, Alexis Wollum, Karlie Wollum and Stoks took ninth with a time of 53.97 seconds.

In the 4×200 meter relay, the team of Hansen, Karlie Wollum, Stoks and Merritt took third with a time of 1:50.09. In triple jump, Hansen took 14th with a leap of 31-08.50 while Mackenzie Janiszeski took 12th in discus with a throw of 86-09 to round out their score.

MCC

For MCC, Amanda Overgaauw qualified as an individual in the 3200 meters, taking first with a time of 11:00.45 while the 4×800 meter relay team of Brylei Schreier, Amanda Overgaauw, Victoria Pierson and Ashley Overgaauw took second with a time of 10:02.32 to qualify for state.

In the 100 meters, Ryan Schreier took third with a time of 13.44 seconds. In the 800 meters, Megan Bakke took sixth with a time of 2:36:10 and Brylei Schreier took ninth with a time of 2:38.54. In the 3200 meters, Ashley Overgaauw took fifth with a time of 12:19.83 while Josie Harms took seventh with a time of 12:50.31. In the 4×100 meter relay, the team of Chelby Kesteloot, Amber Boock, Camdyn Kluis and Abby Overman took 14th with a time of 55.50 seconds while the team of Kesteloot, Boock, Overman and Ryanna Schreier took ninth in the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:54.39.

In the 4×400 meter relay, the team of Overman, Pierson, Boock and Bakke took 12th with a time of 4:31.47. In the long jump, Pierson took 12th with a leap of 14-07.75 while Kluis took 17th in the triple jump with a leap of 29-10 to round out their score.

TMB

For TMB, in the 200 meters, Jordan Munson took 13th with a time of 28.47 seconds as well as a sixth-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.88 while Lauren Zick took eighth with a time of 1:04.41. In the 800 meters, Annaka Hook took 10th with a time of 2:40.58 while Maddi Langerock took fourth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.24 seconds and Jaelynn Carter took seventh with a time of 17.82 seconds. In the 300 meter hurdles, Sheridan Ludeman took fourth with a time of 49.26 seconds.

In the 4×200 meter relay, Langerock, Carter, Madison Timmerman and Ludeman took fourth with a time of 1:50.50 while the team of Zick, Hook, Timmerman and Ludeman took fourth in the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 4:19.58. In pole vault, Sarena Schwartz took third with a height of 8-08 to round out their score.

Lakeview

For Lakeview, Kaitlynn Bot was the lone state qualifier, with Bot taking second in discus with a throw of 115-10.

In the 100 meters, Kiana Imes took seventh with a time of 13.58 seconds and 10th in the 200 meters with a time of 28.38 seconds. In discus, Shelby Gravley took 13th with a throw of 85-00. In the 1600 meters, Sadie Vlaeminck took 16th with a time of 6:23.96 while Bot took third in shot put with a throw of 38-00 to round out their score.

LQPV/DB

For LQPV/DB, in the 100 meters, Mya Conroy took 16th with a time of 14.18 seconds and fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 28.03 seconds. In the 800 meters, Taylor Wood took 14th with a time of 2:46.30 while Ayiana Hastad took 12th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.51 seconds and Kalista Bormann took 16th with a time of 19.82 seconds. In the 4×200 meter relay, the team of Lexi Gloege, Ella Johnson, Reese Johnson and Addison Tufto took 15th with a time of 1:57.39 while the team of Hastad, Reese Johnson, Tufto and Conroy took eighth in the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 4:26.90 and the team of Anika Fernholz, Josie Shurb, Reese Ochsendorf and Wood took 10th in the 4×800 meter relay with a time of 11:27.81.

In the long jump, Lexi Wollschlager took 10th with a leap of 14-11.25 while Camryn Lee took sixth in the shot put with a throw of 34-03 and Paige Meyer took 13th with a throw of 30-09.

RRC/WWG

For RRC/WWG, in the 200 meters, Elizabeth Strock took 12th with a time of 28.41 seconds and fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.73. In the 4×200 meter relay, the team of Strock, Abby Wiggins, Isabel Klumper and Kelsey DeSmith took 10th with a time of 1:54.71 while DeSmith tied for fifth in the high jump with a height of 4-10. In the pole vault, Wiggins and Kennedy Vold tied for ninth with a height of 7-08 to round out their score.

RTR

For RTR, in the 4×100 meter relay, the team of Faith Thomsen, Brynn Peterson, Abby Carr and Tatum Hess took 15th with a time of 57.62 seconds while the team of Thomsen, Peterson, Hess and Carr took 11th in the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:55.26. In the 4×400 meter relay, the team of Jacey Jorgensen, Grace Klumper, Hess and Carr took 15th with a time of 4:44.98 while the team of Autumn Labrune, Ava Guida, Taya Christensen and Jilian Schoenfeld took 14th in the 4×800 meter relay with a time of 12:10.50.

In the long jump, Klumper took fourth with a leap of 15-05.75 while Thomsen took 10th in the triple jump with a leap of 32-04.50 to round out their score.

YME

For YME, in the 400 meters, Gracie Kleven took 14th with a time of 1:07.01 while Ruby Bones took fourth in the high jump with a height of 4-10 and 14th in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 53.34 seconds to round out their score.

Wabasso

For Wabasso, the 4×800 relay team of Mataya Nelson, Mikayla Bliss, Addison Jensen and Natasha Doubler took 15th with a time of 13:16.07.

Boys

On the boys side, Lakeview took seventh with a team score of 34 while TMB took eighth (31.5), Canby/Minneota took 10th (31), LQPV/DB tied for 11th (29.3), YME took 17th (21.3), MCC tied for 19th (20) and RTR and Wabasso tied for 24th (3). Luverne took first with a team score of 58 to clinch its ticket to state.

Lakeview

For Lakeview, in the 100 meters, Jackson Klocow took third with a time of 11.39 seconds while Greg Schafer took fourth with a time of 11.45 seconds. In the 200 meters, Klocow took third with a time of 23.21 seconds while Clayton Kosel took ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 55.35 seconds and Ethan Schwankl took fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.50. Schwankl also took eighth in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:50.15.

In the 4×100 meter relay, the team of Kosel, Klocow, Koltin Molder and Schafer took third with a time of 44.57 seconds while the team of Kosel, Molder, Owen Louwagie and Nathan Fenske took ninth in the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:37.81. In the high jump, Fenske took third with a height of 5-11 while Molder took 16th in the long jump with a leap of 18-11.25 to round out their score.

TMB

For TMB, Tony Nelson was the lone state qualifier, taking second in the discus with a throw of 146-05 and first in the shot put with a throw of 54-11.

In the 200 meters, Jake Turner took 14th with a time of 24.75 seconds while Gabe Struchen tied for seventh (54.39 seconds) and Caden Johnson took 11th in the 400 meters with a time of 55.43 seconds and Nick Ankrum took 15th with a time of 2:13.44 in the 800 meters and 16th in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:22.73. Julius Williams took seventh in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.12 seconds. In the 4×200 meter relay, the team of Ayden Horner, Gabe Struchen, Noah Swenhaugen and Christian Wendland took fourth with a time of 1:34.27 while the team of Gabe Struchen, Johnson, Swenhaugen and Wendland took fourth with a time of 3:37.83.

In the long jump, Wendland tied for ninth with a leap of 19-05.75 while Williams took 15th with a leap of 18-11.50 and Johnson took 13th in the triple jump with a leap of 38-03.75 to round out their score.

Canby/Minneota

For Canby/Minneota, AJ Josephson qualified for state in the 200 meters with a first-place time of 23.12 seconds as well as in the 400 meters with a first-place time of 49.87 seconds.

In the 200 meters, Tucker Thooft took 15th with a time of 24.98 seconds while Trevor Gray took 10th in the 400 meters with a time of 55.38 seconds. In the 800 meters, Blake Stoks tied for 10th with a time of 2:10.23 while Zach Ourada took 14th with a time of 2:12.24 while Kolton Duis took fifth in the 3200 meters with a time of 10:37.93. In the 110 meter hurdles, Tristan Bierschenk took 13th with a time of 18.72 seconds and eighth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 44.57 seconds.

In the 4×100 meter relay, the team of Dylan Houseman, Gray, Thooft and Isaac Guza took 14th with a time of 48.28 seconds while the team of Houseman, Gray, Thooft and Guza took 12th in the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:39.47. In the 4×800 meter relay, the team of Stoks, Ourada, Duis and Josephson took third with a time of 8:32.85 to round out their score.

LQPV/DB

For LQPV/DB, the 4×800 relay team of Caleb Johnson, Hunter Martinson, Darius Fenske and Payton Sterud took first with a time of 8:25.13 while Fenske also qualified in the 1600 meters with a second-place time of 4:33.67.

In the 800 meters, Johnson took fourth with a time of 2:04.35 while Sterud took sixth in the 3200 meters with a time of 10:38.87. In the 300 meter hurdles, James Weber took 13th with a time of 46.70 seconds while the team of Gauge Liebl, Weber, Brayson Boike and Martinson tied for ninth with a time of 47.70 seconds and the team of Johnson, Fenske, Weber and Martinson took eighth in the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 3:43.30.

In the high jump, Boike tied for eighth with a height of 5-07 and took seventh in the long jump with a leap of 19-07.75 while Austin Moen took 10th in the shot put with a throw of 42-01 to round out their score.

YME

For YME, Silas Whitebuffalo qualified in the 300 meter hurdles with a second-place time of 42.22 seconds.

In the 100 meters, Tyler Syring took eighth with a time of 11.87 seconds while Luke Kluver took 16th with a time of 12.50 seconds and Syring took sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.01 seconds. In the 400 meters, Jaiden Jimenez took 15th with a time of 57.19 seconds while Oscar Galvan took 12th in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 46.32 seconds. In the 110 meter hurdles, Whitebuffalo took third with a time of 16.34 seconds while Galvan took 16th with a time of 19.53 seconds. In the 4×100 meter relay, the team of Brady Dahlager, Kluver, Kyle Chase and Syring took sixth with a time of 46.68 seconds while the team of Galvan, Chase, Julius Blue and Kluver took 14th with a time of 1:39.74. In pole vault, Galvan tied for eighth with a height of 10-01 while Whitebuffalo tied for ninth (19-05.75) and 15th (36-04) in the long jump and triple jump, respectively to round out their score.

MCC

For MCC, in the 110 meter hurdles, Ashton Kalas took 10th with a time of 18.20 seconds while Blake Schmitz took sixth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 43.69 seconds. In the 4×100 meter relay, the team of Dylan Johnson, Colin Christensen, Justin Scotting and Christian Kuball took fifth with a time of 46.58 seconds while the team of Johnson, Schmitz, Scotting and Kuball took sixth in the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:35.17. In the 4×400 meter relay, the team of Johnson, Christensen, Kuball and Schmitz took ninth with a time of 3:43.31 while the team of Rylan Behnke, Rylan Engelkes, Dante Damm and Brock Smith took 14th in the 4×800 meter relay with a time of 9:58.48.

In the high jump, Christensen took fourth with a height of 5-11 while Behnke took fourth in pole vault with a height of 12-01 to round out their score.

RTR

For RTR, Hunter Hulstein-Safstrom took 15th with a time of 12.37 seconds while the team of Tim Gilmore, Connor Kremin, Darrick Baartman and Hulstein-Safstrom took 12th in the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 48.11 seconds and the team of Glimore, Kremin, Hulstein-Safstrom and Baartman took 11th in the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:39.14. In the 4×800 meter relay, the team of Ben Guida, Tucker Haroldson, Carson Gylling and Skyelar Martinez took 11th with a time of 9:38.50 while Baartman took sixth in the long jump with a leap of 19-08.75 to round out their score.

Wabasso

For Wabasso, Tyler Bliss took 15th in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 47.19 seconds while Sam Fenger took sixth in the high jump with a height of 5-09 and Bliss took 13th in the discus with a throw of 93-03 to round out their score.

RRC/WWG

For RRC/WWG, the 4×100 meter relay team of Gabe Krick, Joseph Johnson, Vander Mathiowetz and Zak Zimmermann took 16th with a time of 48.60 seconds while Coltin Pilaczynski took 12th in the high jump with a height of 5-07 to round out their score.

The Class A meet will be held on Friday at St. Michael-Albertville, with the boys starting at 10 a.m. and girls starting at 3:30 p.m.
