PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Jacobson throws a shutout as Tigers top Arrows

PIPESTONE – Charlie Jacobson struck out nine batters and only allowed four hits as the Marshall baseball team shut out Pipestone Area 7-0 on Thursday.

Chase Douglas, Josh Baker and Cole Felcyn recorded two hits apiece for the Tigers. Douglas scored three runs in the win while Baker and Felcyn each recorded two RBI.

Connor Neubeck added a hit and three RBI for Marshall.

Marshall (10-3) will host Windom Area on Monday.

RTR 15, Canby 3

RUTHTON – Russell-Tyler-Ruthton used a 13-run first inning to defeat Canby 15-3 in five innings on Thursday.

Corbyn Sitzmann went 2 for 3 wit a double, two RBI and three runs scored. Cody Wichmann doubled, drove in three runs and scored twice, while Dylan Werkman went 3 for 4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored.

Hayden Gravley and Aiden Wichmann combined to strike out 12 Lancers over five innings, recording six strikeouts apiece. Gravley allowed one unearned run on no hits over three innings of work while Wichmann threw the last two innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits.

Hunter Cleveland went 1 for 3 with an RBI to lead Canby.

RTR (9-3) will host Murray County Central on Monday while Canby (1-8) will host Lac qui Parle Valley today.

Wabasso 11, SE 4

SLEEPY EYE – Wabasso used a consistent offensive attack to defeat Sleepy Eye 11-4 on Thursday.

The Rabbits scored at least one run in five of the game’s seven innings.

Hunter Taylor went 2 for 3 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored.

Carter Benz and Matthew Evink added doubles in the win, with Evink recording two RBI.

Benz allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts over five innings of work to earn the victory.

Wabasso (8-4) will travel to Minneota on Monday.

TYLER – Russell-Tyler-Ruthton defeated Dawson-Boyd 15-2 in five innings on Thursday to open a conference doubleheader.

Cora Alderson went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI to lead the Knights. Kya Alderson doubled with four RBI in the win, while Madison Burns scored four runs.

Kate Dahl recorded a solo home run for Dawson-Boyd’s only hit in the loss.

TYLER – RTR used an 11-run second inning to defeat Dawson-Boyd 18-2 in four innings in the second game.

Kya Alderson went 3 for 4 with a double and four RBI to lead the Knights. Maryn Johansen added three hits in the win, while Sara Hartson recorded four RBI and three runs scored.

Hayley Anderson went 2 for 2 to lead the Blackjacks.

BEA Quad

BLUE EARTH – The Marshall track an field teams traveled to Blue Earth on Thursday for a conference quadrangular.

The Fairmont girls won with a team score of 107. Marshall finished in second place with 39 points. St. Peter placed third as a team with 35.5 points, while host Blue Earth Area rounded out the field with 30.5 points.

Danya Estrada won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.9.

Leah Matzner and Ava Holmgren tied with a winning mark of 4 feet, 10 inches in the high jump.

Bellamy Sukalski, Allyson Sample, Taleigha Bigler and Miracle Tucker won the 3,200-meter relay in 9:55.3.

Avery Schneider finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.6 seconds

Marshall’s 400-meter relay team of Alexi Schneider, Averi Schneider, Matzner and Brianna Simpson placed third with a time of 54.1 seconds.

In the 800-meter relay, Estrada, Matzner, Lauran Carver and Simpson took third place at 1:56.3.

The Fairmont boys won with a team score of 75 points. St. Peter finished second at 56 points while BEA totaled 34 points, with Marshall recording 31 points as a team.

Eli Salisbury won the boys 800 meters with a time of 2:02.0.

Ashton Schnaser finished second in the 1,600 at 4:54.7.

DeMario Gaines recorded a second-place time of 18.1 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles.

Kongmeng recorded a distance of 19-4 ¾ in the long jump for a second place finish.

Marshall returns home for a meet on Monday.
