SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: SMSU competes at USD for second straight weekend

MARSHALL — The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s and men’s outdoor track & field teams return to the University of South Dakota today and Saturday competing at the University of South Dakota Challenge at the Lillibridge Track Complex and Gottsleben Field in Vermillion, S.D.

Competition begins today with multi events at 12:30 p.m., field events at 2 p.m. and track events starting at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, the multi events begin at 10 a.m., followed by field events at 11 a.m. and track events starting at 12 p.m.

Attendance will be limited due to COVID-19 capacity restrictions. Competitors’ families are asked to only stay for their athlete’s event with a one-in, one-out policy in effect.

This weekend’s field includes student-athletes from North Dakota, South Dakota State, Concordia-St. Paul, Dakota Wesleyan, Iowa Central CC, Minnesota State, Minot State, Mount Marty, MSU Moorhead, Northern State, Sioux Falls, Southwest Minnesota State, U-Mary and Wayne State. There will also be a handful of non-collegians competing from Velaasa and Lincoln Running Company.

Caitlyn Regan has the fourth best time among Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference runners in the 800 meters at 2:18.10.

Isatu Shirek is fourth in the 400 hurdles at 1:04.52 and sixth in the 100 hurdles at 14.83.

Rebecca Manteuffel’s mark of 47.11m in the discus ranks second in the NSIC and is an NCAA provisional mark, while her 13.03m toss in the shotput ranks eighth in the NSIC.

Connor Wigand has the third best mark in the shot put among NSIC competitors at 16.55m, while his discus throw of 45.19m ranks seven in the league.

Isaiah Nelson ranks seventh in the triple jump at 13.30m with teammate McKallen Smith ranking sixth in the high jump at 1.91m.

Renald Pierre is second in the 110 hurdles at 15.05 with Jed Hansen ranking seventh in the pole vault at 4.31m.
