SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: Mustangs set two records at USD Challenge
VERMILLION, S.D. — The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s and men’s outdoor track & field teams set a pair of school records to day competing in a strong field at the USD Challenge hosted by the University of South Dakota on Friday and Saturday.
For the SMSU women’s team, Istau Shirek set a school record in the 100-meter hurdles on Saturday running 14.64 to finish in seventh place.
Tatum Klink earned a 13th place finish in the long jump at 5.01m.
For the Mustang men, Isaiah Nelson earned a fifth place mark in the triple jump at 13.71m, while McKallen Smith set a program record in the high jump with a mark of 1.98m to finish 10th overall.
Renald Pierre just missed the finals in the 110-meter hurdles and placed 10th overall at 15.10. Teammate Junior Kandolo earned a mark of 6.44m in the long jump to finish in 12th overall.
Connor Wigand finished in 15th in the shot put with a toss of 15.27m and was 11th in the discus at 45.96m.
Southwest Minnesota State is scheduled to next compete at the Sioux City Relays on Friday, April 16.
