SMSU GOLF: Trongard hits hole-in-one during Mustang/Maverick Dual on Thursday; SMSU trails by three shots

MARSHALL — The Southwest Minnesota State women’s golf battled rainy conditions on Thursday afternoon taking on Minnesota State in the two-day, 36-hole Mustang/Maverick Dual at the par 72, 5,826-yard, Marshall Golf Club. Due to course conditions, the two teams played the front nine twice.

MSU shot a 318 and holds a three-shot lead over SMSU’s 321. SMSU’s Hannah Kohls and MSU’s Delaney Conrad both shot rounds of three-over-par 75 to lead the tournament.

One of the highlights of the day came via SMSU’s Ashley Trongard, who carded a hole-in-one on the par 3 sixth hole.

SMSU’s Jacqueline Gossen is tied for fifth following an 8-over 80, while Anneke Weg and Trongard (playing as an individual) both carded 9-over 81s and are tied for seventh. Lauryn Driscoll and Sally Gallagher both finished with scores of 13-over 85 for the Mustangs and are tied for 10th. Natalie Bohnert and Sydney Noel both played as individuals for SMSU with Bohnert shooting a 17-over 89 and Noel recording a 23-over 95.

The two teams will conclude the dual today at the Mankato Golf Club starting at 9:30 a.m.
