WABASSO — The Wabasso softball team opened its 2021 season on Saturday with a trio of games, with the Rabbits defeating Murray County Central 16-0 in four innings, Apollo 10-2 and Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove 10-5.

Against MCC, Avery Carlson led Wabasso with three hits and five RBI while Sophia Hanna added two hits and two RBI, Halle Huhnerkoch and Kylee Fogelson each had a hit and Kelsey Fischer had a couple of hits and three RBI. Sarah Franta earned the victory, going all four innings while allowing just two hits and struck out five.

No MCC stats were available at press time.

Against Apollo, Carlson led Wabasso with two hits and three RBI while Sophia Hanna added two hits and two RBI, Kelsey Frank had two hits, Franta had three hits, Fogelson recorded a hit and Kylei Wilkinson had a hit and two RBI. Carlson also earned the victory, striking out eight.

Against RRC/WWG, Franta led Wabasso with two hits while also earning the win and striking out three. Frank added two hits while Carlson had two hits and two RBI and Madeline Hanna, Sophia Hanna, Huhnerkoch, Cassidy Irlbeck and Fischer each had a hit.

Wabasso will host New Ulm Cathedral today in a doubleheader at 4:30 p.m. while RRC/WWG will face Adrian/Ellsworth on the road on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. and MCC will host Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
