PREP BASKETBALL: Area teams earn section seedings

MARSHALL – As another regular season of basketball games winds down, area teams begin to look ahead to section tournament action.

The wait won’t have to be for long, with the first girls basketball games of the postseason coming on Monday and Tuesday in Section 3A and Section 3AA, wile the boys basketball postseason will commence on Monday and Thursday.

This season, games in both boys and girls basketball tournaments will be played at the high seed. The exception is the section championship games, which will each be played at neutral sites.

Girls basketball

Minneota will once again be the top seed in Section 3A North. On Tuesday, the Vikings will face the winner of Monday’s game between No. 9N Dawson-Boyd and No. 8N Yellow Medicine East.

No. 5N Canby will travel to Clara City to face No. 4N MACCRAY.

On the other side of the Section 3A North bracket, No. 3N Lakeview will host No. 6N Wabasso while No. 7N Russell-Tyler-Ruthton will host No. 2N Lac qui Parle Valley.

Southwest Minnesota Christian earned the top seed in Section 3A South and will host No. 8 Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda on Tuesday. Across town, No. 4S Edgerton will host No. 5S Westbrook-Walnut Grove.

In Lamberton, No. 3S Red Rock Central will host No. 6S Adrian/Ellsworth. No. 7S Murray County Central will travel southwest to face No. 2S Hills-Beaver Creek.

Subsection championships will be played on March 22, with North and South champions to meet on March 25 with a trip to state on the line.

Section 3AA North will go through New London-Spicer, as the top seed will begin its tournament run against No. 8N Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City. No. 4N Minnewaska and No. 5N Paynesville Area both had to forfeit their opening game matchup, so either NLS or ACGC will have a bye in the second round.

No. 3N Eden Valley-Watkins will host No. 6N Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta, while No. 2N Litchfield will host No. 7N Benson.

Windom Area earned the top seed in Section 3AA South and will host No. 8S Pipestone Area. No. 4S will host No. 5S St. James Area.

On the other side of the south bracket, No. 3S Luverne will host No. 6S Tracy-Milroy-Balaton, while No. 7S Jackson County Central travels to No. 2S Redwood Valley.

Boys basketball

Lac qui Parle Valley earned the top seed in Section 3A North. On Thursday, the Eagles will face the winner of Monday’s matchup between No. 8N Dawson-Boyd and No. 9N Canby. No. 4N Minneota will host No. 5N MACCRAY.

No. 6N Lakeview will travel to No. 3N Renville County West, while No. 2N Central Minnesota Christian School will host the winner of Monday’s game between No. 7N. Wabasso and No. 10N Yellow Medicine East.

Southwest Minnesota Christian earned the top seed in Section 3A South and will await the winner of Monday’s game between No. 8S Edgerton and No. 9S Adrian/Ellsworth. Meanwhile, No. 4S Russell-Tyler-Ruthton will host No. 5S Murray County Central.

No. 6S Hills-Beaver Creek will travel to Okabena to face No. 3S Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, while No. 7S Red Rock Central will travel to No. 2S Westbrook-Walnut Grove.

Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta earned the top seed in Section 3AA North and will face No. 8N Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City on Thursday. Meanwhile, No. 4N Minnewaska Area will host No. 5N New London-Spicer.

No. 3N Paynesville Area will host No. 6N Benson, while 7N Montevideo will travel to No. 2N Redwood Valley.

With only seven teams in Section 3AA South, top-seeded Luverne earned a bye in Thursday’s first round. They will await the winner of Thursday’s game between No. 4S Windom Area and No. 5S Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.

No. 3S Fairmont will host No. 6S Jackson County Central, while No. 7S St. James Area will travel to No. 2S Pipestone Area.
