SMSU student-athletes bring holiday cheer to local residents

MARSHALL — The Southwest Minnesota State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has partnered this holiday season with Heritage Pointe Senior Living in Marshall to bring holiday to cheer to residents.

SMSU student-athletes created personalized Christmas cards for individuals who may not be able to see loved ones for the holidays due to COVID-19.

“During this difficult holiday season, our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee wanted to do something special for others,” said Allison Monson, SMSU Senior Woman Administrator and SMSU SAAC advisor.

SMSU student-athletes also put together small gifts for the residents, including fuzzy socks, fun mugs with hot chocolate or tea bags, stamps for mailing and other gifts.

“SMSU is fortunate to have such a caring, giving and aware group of young leaders in our SAAC program,” Monson said. “This was a special event that brought joy to a lot of people, including student-athletes at SMSU.”
