PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Wabasso takes down MCC in Section 3A tournament

SLAYTON — The Murray County Central football team fell to Wabasso 28-15 on Friday in the Section 3A tournament in the final game of the season.

Blake Schmitz completed 10 of his 22 pass attempts for 104 yards and a touchdown for MCC while adding 32 yards on the ground and another score. Dylan Johnson ran for 79 yards on 16 carries while Dawson Tutt had two catches for 45 yards and Chant Mitchell added three catches for 21 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Christian Kuball had 7.5 total tackles while Colton Mitchell added 6.5 total tackles.

Nick Marotzke ran for 150 yards on 26 carries and a touchdown for Wabasso while Carter Benz completed 13 of his 22 pass attempts for 242 yards and two scores. Hunter Taylor added 52 yards on the ground and a touchdown while Colby Wall had nine receptions for 160 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Jaxon Fischer had 3.5 total tackles while Will Carlson added two interceptions.

MCC finishes its season with a 6-1 record while Wabasso finishes its season with a 7-1 record.

Section 5A

Minneota 14, BOLD 7

MINNEOTA — The Minneota football team defeated BOLD 14-7 in the Section 5A tournament in the final game of the season.

Jacob Hennen completed 5 of his 11 pass attempts for 38 yards and a touchdown while adding 45 yards on the ground. AJ Josephson ran for 79 yards on eight carries and another score while Cale Sorenson had two catches for 16 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Jonah Gruenes recorded eight total tackles while Josephson and Joey Rybinski each added seven total tackles.

Minneota finishes its season with an 8-0 record.

Prep volleyball

RTR 3, Canby 1

CANBY — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton volleyball team defeated Canby 3-1 (21-25, 29-27, 25-20, 25-18) on Friday in its final match of the season.

Haley Muenchow recorded 14 kills for RTR while Ella Hesse added 13 and Abby Carr had 10. Maddi Wendland had 28 digs while Hesse added 21 and Kalleigh Carr had 20 and McKinley Schreurs recorded 32 set assists while Kalleigh Carr added 19.

Gabby Harding and Mackenzie Janiszeski each recorded 12 kills for Canby while Maya Wente and Bailey Kindopp each added seven. Kyla Rangaard had 20 digs while Gabby Harding and Janiszeski each added 12 and Rachel Harding had 25 set assists while Paige Nelson added 23.

RTR finishes its season with a 12-2 record while Canby finishes its season with a 10-3 record.

Lakeview 3, RCW 0

RENVILLE — The Lakeview volleyball team defeated Renville County West 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-18) on Friday in its final match of the season.

Savanna Louwagie recorded 19 kills while Bradlyn Gniffke added 10 and Kaitlynn Bot and Payton Timm each added four. Jaci Hubbard had 10 digs while Timm added nine and Louwagie recorded six and Grace Rausch had 27 set assists.

Lakeview finishes its season with a 3-4 record.

TMB 3,

Redwood Valley 2

REDWOOD FALLS — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton volleyball team defeated Redwood Valley 3-2 (25-16, 17-25, 23-25, 28-26, 18-16) on Friday in its final match of the season.

Kylie Hensch recorded 17 kills for TMB while Jadyn Lessman added 13 and Kiarra Danielson and Sheridan Ludeman each had 12. Margaret Dolan had 39 digs while Danielson added 31, Maddi Langerock had 23 and Ludeman had 12. Langerock also added 50 set assists.

TMB ends its season with a record of 11-3.

MACCRAY 3, YME 1

GRANITE FALLS — The Yellow Medicine East volleyball team fell to MACCRAY 3-1 (19-25, 25-18, 16-25, 13-25) on Friday in its final match of the season.

Alli Steffen recorded 16 kills for YME while Shelby Mortenson added six and Alexis Smith had five. Steffen had 14 digs while Yansi Flores added 12, Aria Peters had 11 and Kiara Sakry had 10. Peters also had 14 set assists.

YME ends its season with a 4-10 record.

RRC 3, HLO/Fulda 2

OKABENA — The Red Rock Central volleyball team defeated Heron Lake-Okabena 3-2 (18-25, 26-24, 25-16, 21-25, 15-12) on Friday in its final match of the season.

Karli Arkell recorded 21 kills while Nicole Schroepfer added 17 and Josie Horning had five. Bianca Weis had 29 digs while Schroepfer added 15 and Lilly Stavnes and Horning each had nine. Schroepfer had 16 set assists while Arkell added 10.

RRC finishes its season with a 10-3 record.
