PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: MCC rolls past Adrian, 29-6

SLAYTON — The No. 9 ranked Murray County Central football team kept its pristine record intact on Friday night with 29-6 drubbing over Adrian.

MCC Quarterback Blake Schmitz completed 13 of his 18 pass attempts for 233 yards and a pair of touchdowns with one interception along with two rushing touchdowns. Colton Mitchell paced the Rebels in receiving with 84 yards on two receptions, one of which went for a touchdown. Chant Mitchell also caught a touchdown pass and finished with four receptions overall for 29 yards. Dawson Tutt hauled in three receptions for 41 yards.

Dylan Johnson ended the night as the Rebels leading rusher with 33 yards on 8 attempts. Jared Deacon added 26 yards on four carries, while Schmitz picked up 22 yards on eight carries.

MCC (4-0) will face Springfield next Friday on the road at 7 p.m.

Sleepy Eye

Saint Mary’s 22, WWG 16

WESTBROOK — The Chargers dropped to 1-3 on Friday after Sleepy Eye Saint Mary’s mounted a second half comeback to win 22-16.

WWG quarterback Brady Ross completed 13 of his 22 passes for 182 yards with a pair two touchdowns and two interceptions. Ross added 23 yards on the ground on four rushing attempts.

Gabe Krick paced the Chargers in rushing with 25 yards on seven carries, while Ethan Mischke added 16 yards on three carries. Mischke racked up an additional 133 receiving yards on seven receptions and two touchdowns. Nathan Kuehl picked up 18 yards on three catches, while Krick finished with 34 yards on four receptions.

The Chargers (1-3) will be back on their home field next Saturday when they take on Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda at 2 p.m.

COTTONWOOD — The No. 3 Minneota Vikings held on to defeat the Lakers 7-6 in a tightly-contested defensive battle.

Minneota quarterback Jacob Hennen dropped back to pass 12 times in the contest with four completions for 41 yards and an interception. Hennen did most of the damage on the ground, finishing with 107 yards on 14 carries. Conner Sik ran for 95 yards on 20 attempts, while A.J. Josephson scored the team’s only touchdown from four yards out. Josephson finished the game with 53 yards on seven rushing attempts.

Cale Sorensen led the Vikings in receiving with 19 yards on two catches. Joey Rybinski and A.J. Myhre each added a reception for 11 yards.

Lakeview stats were not available at press time.

Minneota (4-0) will return to its home field next Friday when the team takes on Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at 7 p.m. The Lakers (2-2) will travel to Canby next Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Thursday volleyball

MCC 3, HBC 1

HILLS — The Murray County Central volleyball team defeated Hills-Beaver Creek 3-1 (17-25, 25-16, 25-20, 30-28) on Thursday.

Emily Rohrer led the way for MCC with 22 kills while Camdyn Kluis added 10 and Emma Johnson had nine. Kylie Frisk led in digs with 40 while Amber Boock added 31, Brynn Graphenteen had 30, Kluis had 28 and Kiana Felber had 26. Graphenteen led in set assists with 47.

MCC (3-4) will face WWG on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
