Marshall tennis falls to Mankato West in Section 2AA South tournament

MANKATO — The No. 7 Marshall girls tennis team fell to second-seeded Mankato West 5-2 in the Section 2AA South tournament on Tuesday. Mankato West took all four singles matches and one doubles match to earn the victory.

At No. 1 singles, Gionna Parsa fell to Mankato West’s Lauryn Douglas 6-2, 6-0 while Leah Matzner fell to Mankato West’s Payton Douglas 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3 singles, Mariah Bergjord fell to Mankato West’s McKenna Schreiber 6-1, 6-1 while Maggie Tabaka fell to Mankato West’s Natalie Zarn 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot.

In doubles action, Leah Schaefer and Regan Loft fell to Mankato West’s Anna Egeland and Elli Kim 6-1, 4-6, 10-6 at the No. 1 spot. Marshall won the final two doubles matches, with Kayla Polejewski and Dani Ewing defeating Mankato West’s Lillian Schmidt and Julia Ulman 6-7, 7-5, 10-7 at the No. 2 spot and Aubrey Bjella and Mackenna Eickhoff defeating Mankato West’s Khale Downs and Ella Betters 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot.
