PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Marshall boys, girls cross country teams earn top-finishes in Worthington

WORTHINGTON — The Marshall girls and boys cross country teams continued their impressive start to the season on Friday by placing first at the Worthington cross country meet.

Girls

Led by third-place finisher Bellamy Sukalski, the Tigers recorded a team-score of 22 to pace the meet with a time of 1:48:59.20. Luverne placed second at the meet with a team score of 33 and a time of 1:49:35.80, while Windom Area recorded an incomplete score.

Sukalski’s time of 21:33.90 was good enough for third among all individual runners, while Allyson Sample (21:40.60) and Anna Degroot (21:47.30) joined Sukalski in the top five with fourth and fifth place finishes respectively.

Taleigha Bigler (21:58.00) and Miracle Tucker (21:59.40) both finished within the top-10 by placing seventh and eighth at the event. Gracelyn Foster (23:31.60) and Cameen McFarquhar (24:03.00)rounded out the top-16 by placing 13th and 15th.

Boys

With four runners placing in the top-five, the Marshall boys team finished in first place with a time of 1:35:26.80 and a team score of 20. Windom Area (1:42:10.70) and Luverne (1:45:53.50) placed second and third at the event with team scores of 51 and 62, respectively.

Zach Leibfried (18:06.90) and Owen Holmberg (18:20.70) were the top two finishers at the event, while Joshua Leibfried and Landon Wherry placed fourth and fifth with times of 19:16.90 and 19:20.00, respectively.

Rounding out the top-10 finishers in the event were Marshall’s Ashton Schnaser and Daniel Olin in eighth and ninth place with times of 20:22.30 and 20:35.70. Sam Deutz (21:25.00) and Brett Regnier (21:52.80) placed 15th and 17th, respectively.

The Marshall boys and girls cross country teams will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Redwood Falls to compete in a triangular with Redwood Valley and Luverne beginning at 4:30 p.m.
