Marshall tennis takes down Worthington 5-2

WORTHINGTON — The Marshall girls tennis team had a familiar opponent on Monday, facing Worthington for the second time in five days. Marshall was able to continue its success against Worthington, winning by a score of 5-2.

Marshall and Worthington split the singles matchups. Gionna Parsa defeated Worthington’s Kessy Aljets 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot while Eden Knudson defeated Worthington’s Marah Darling 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot. Worthington won the final two singles matches, with Ivy Jenson defeating Marshall’s Leah Matzner 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot and Taya Oberloh defeating Marshall’s Mariah Bergjord 7-6, 7-5 at the No. 4 spot.

In doubles action, Marshall continued its strong play, winning all three matches. The duo of Leah Schaefer and Regan Loft defeated Worthington’s Madison Johnson and Bailey Newman 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot while Kayla Polejewski and Dani Ewing defeated Worthington’s Madison Shaffer and Calah Riley 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. Aubrey Bjella and Mackenna Eickhoff defeated Worthington’s Brooke Nordseth and Stephie Bauman 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot to help Marshall earn the victory.

Marshall will face St. James Area in St. James on Thursday at 4 p.m.
