MINNEAPOLIS — The preseason watch list for the 2020 Outland Trophy was announced on Tuesday afternoon by the Football Writers Association of America, and a familiar name made the list.

Marshall native and University of Minnesota offensive lineman Blaise Andries was among the 85 names listed for the trophy, which is in its 75th year and is the third-oldest major college football award.

The award is given to the best interior lineman in college football and tackles, guards and centers will be eligible for the award. Andries is just one of 21 offensive guards on the list as well as one of only 12 players from the Big Ten.

After redshirting in 2017, Andries then started the next 26 games of his career with the Gophers. He has started 12 times at right guard, 10 at left guard, two at right tackle and two at left tackle.

Last season, Andries helped anchor an offensive line that saw the offense record 5,616 total yards (third-most in school history) as well as a school-record 3,293 passing yards and 294 first downs and 443 points scored (both the second-most in school history).

After being named to the All-Big Ten Honorable Mention team in 2018, Andries was named to the All-Big Ten Third Team last season and also earned CoSida Academic All-America Second Team honors.

Andries will be a junior this fall and is majoring in Mathematics and plans to become an actuary.
