NSIC BASKETBALL: NCAA Div. II Central Region brackets announced; NSIC earns four total spots

UMD, SCSU and USF qualify on women’s side, NSU for the men

INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA has announced the teams that will compete in the central region tournament.

Women

Of the eight teams that will compete at the central region women’s basketball tournament, the NSIC will have three teams continuing their seasons. Minnesota Duluth, St. Cloud State and Sioux Falls each earned a spot in the NCAA post-season tournament which will take place on March 13-14 and 16 in Warrensburg, Missouri, hosted by the University of Central Missouri. Game times will be announced later in the week.

Minnesota Duluth (26-6), the NSIC regular season champion, earned the second seed and will take on Fort Hays State (23-7) from the MIAA in the first round. Sioux Falls (26-6) earned the third seed and will take on sixth seeded St. Cloud State in the first round.

St. Cloud State, Central Missouri and Southeastern Oklahoma State each earned automatic bids to the NCAA Central Region Tournament with their conference tournament championships. The NSIC, the Great American Conference (GAC) and the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) make up the NCAA Central Region.

The NCAA Elite Eight will take place on March 24-25 and 27 at the at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.

Men

Of the eight teams that will compete at the central region men’s basketball tournament, the NSIC will have Northern State continue its season. The tournament will take place March 14-15 and 17 in Maryville, Missouri with game times announced later this week.

Northern State (26-6) earned the fourth seed in the tournament and will take on the fifth seed of Missouri Southern State (23-7) out of the MIAA in the first round.

NSU (NSIC), Northwest Missouri State (MIAA) and Henderson State (GAC) each earned automatic bids to the NCAA Central Region Tournament with their conference tournament championships. The NSIC, the Great American Conference (GAC) and the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) make up the NCAA Central Region.

The NCAA Elite Eight quarterfinals and semifinals will take place on March 26 and 28 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana. The NCAA Division II National Championship will be played on Sunday, April 5 in Atlanta, Georgia.
