SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: SMSU earns numerous first place finishes at SJU/CSB meet
COLLEGEVILLE — The Southwest Minnesota State women’s and men’s indoor track & field teams had another big day with a school record and several top finishes at the SJU/CSB Invite held at The Spectrum on the campus of St. John’s University.
For the women’s team, Kayla Jansky won the 600 meters with a school record time of 1:41.10, while teammate Ashlyn Jones won the high jump with a mark of 1.60m.
Rebecca Manteuffel also earned first place in the shot put with a toss of 13.38m and was first in the weight throw at 18.74m.
Sarah Strandemo had a solid day placing third in the 60 meters at 8.17 and also third in the 200 meters at 27.82.
Isatu Shirek placed second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.29.
For the Mustang men’s team, Kyle Felling earned a first place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 50.77 and was also fourth in the 200 meters at 22.94.
Connor Wigand won the weight throw with a mark of 17.72m and placed second in the shot put at 15.49m.
Hever Valenzuela ran 1:26.34 to finish second in the 600 meters, while Quan Williams placed third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.12.
Nathan Stearns picked up a second place finish in the 60 meter hurdles at 8.98.
Isaiah Nelson went 13.56m in the triple jump to finish in third place.
Southwest Minnesota State will have its final meet prior to the conference championships on Friday, competing at the South Dakota State Last Chance Meet in Brookings.
