SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: SMSU concludes regular season at SDSU Last Chance today

MARSHALL — The Southwest Minnesota State University indoor track & field teams end their regular season today competing at the SDSU Last Chance meet inside the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, S.D.

The meet is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. with the final event scheduled to go off at 6:40 p.m.

Today’s meet will be the final competition for SMSU before the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships on Feb. 28-29 in Mankato.

Heading into the final meet prior the conference championships, SMSU has several athletes ranking high in the NSIC performance list. On the women’s team, Ashlyn Jones ranks third in the high jump (1.67m), Rebecca Manteuffel is third in the weight throw (18.86m) and 10th in the shot put (13.46m), while Isatu Shirek ranks 12th in the 60 meter hurdles (9.13).

Manteuffel’s mark in the weight throw currently ranks sixth in Division II, while Jones’ distance in the high jump ranks 29th overall.

For the SMSU men’s team, Connor Wigand ranks second in the NSIC in the shot put (15.93m) and sixth in the weight throw (17.72m). His weight throw toss also ranks 38th in Division II. Isaiah Nelson ranks 11th in the triple jump (13.61m), Kyle Felling ranks 12th in the 400 meters (50.77), Kristian Crabb is 14th in the shot put (14.06m), while Renald Pierre ranks 15th in the 60 hurdles (8.67).

SMSU is coming off a busy meet last Saturday setting several school records at the CSB/SJU Invite in Collegeville.
