SMSU TENNIS: SMSU drops pair of matches over the weekend
FARGO, N.D. — The Southwest Minnesota State women’s tennis team opened the 2020 season on this weekend suffering a 7-0 loss to UMary on Saturday and 7-0 to MSU Moorhead on Sunday at Courts Plus.
During Saturday’s match, Cora Delich lost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Paige Janka dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 2, Cara Berkner suffered a 6-0, 6-2 loss at No. 3 singles, while Taylor Bonestroo lost at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-0. SMSU had to forfeit at both No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
Delich and Janka lost 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Berkner and Bonestroo suffered a 6-1 loss at at No. 2 doubles.
On Sunday, Delich lost a tough 6-3, 6-4 match at No. 1 singles, while Janka lost 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Berkner, at No. 3, and Bonestroo at No. 4, both lost their matches 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, Delich and Janka lost 6-2, while Berkner and Bonestroo suffered a 6-1 setback.
Southwest Minnesota State returns to action next weekend with two matches in Duluth. SMSU takes on St. Cloud State at 5 p.m. on Saturday, before facing Minnesota Duluth on Sunday at 1 p.m.
