PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall closes regular season with win over Watertown

WATERTOWN, S.D. — In its final tuneup before the postseason, the Marshall boys basketball team traveled across state lines to defeat Watertown (S.D.) 59-36 on Thursday.

Senior forward Noah Puetz led the way for the Tigers with 16 points and six rebounds.

Matt Hmielewski added 12 points in the win, while Yahya Black recorded 10 points and five rebounds.

Marshall (25-2) will find out the Section 2AAA Tournament seedings this weekend.

MINNEOTA — In the opening round of the Section 3A Tournament, it was No. 7N seed Minneota that came away with a 71-54 win over No. 10N Yellow Medicine East on Thursday.

Jacob Citterman led Minneota with 20 points and six rebounds.

Logan Sussner added 13 points and 23 rebounds in the win, while Alex Saltzer recorded 13 points and seven rebounds.

Carter Sneller scored 26 points to lead YME.

Minneota (15-11) will face No. 2N MACCRAY on Saturday in Montevideo, while YME ends its season with a 1-23 record.

WABASSO — In the opening round of the Section 3A Tournament, No. 8N Wabasso cruised to a 92-62 win over No. 9N Canby on Thursday.

Will Carlson led the way for Wabasso with 32 points and five rebounds. Isaac Kronback added 29 points and six rebounds in the win, while Mason Dallenbach finished with 14 points.

Will Varcoe scored 19 points to lead Canby.

Wabasso (10-17) will face Central Minnesota Christian on Saturday in Montevideo while Canby ends its season with a 3-21 record.

Jonah Hansen led the way for RRC with 20 points, five rebounds and seven steals. Dominik Smith added 12 points in the win while Sam Helmer finished with 10 points and five rebounds.

RRC (7-19) will face top-seeded Southwest Minnesota Christian in Worthington on Saturday.
