PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: No. 6 Tigers take down No. 8 Huskies in triangular sweep

JACKSON — In a matchup of two of the top wrestling teams in the state, the Marshall Tigers defeated Jackson County Central 34-27 as part of a triangular sweep for Marshall on Monday night.

The Tigers also defeated Worthington 47-21 earlier in the evening.

Marshall — the No. 6-ranked team in Class AA — took an early 18-3 lead on JCC, highlighted by a Dylan Louwagie win over Logan Butzon in double overtime at 113 pounds. The two individuals entered the bout each as Top 10 wrestlers in the state.

Ranked No. 8 in Class A as a team, JCC stormed all the way back to take a 21-18 lead going into the final five weight classes.

Two Marshall decisions by Grant Louwagie and Spencer Wambeke were followed by a forfeit that earned the Huskies six points, keeping JCC ahead 27-24 entering the final two bouts. There, Cole Felcyn earned a 10-2 major decision over Lee Drahota to give Marshall a one-point lead before Jackson Vierstraete sealed the Marshall win in the heavyweight bout with a pin of Tycin Bejarano.

Worthington 21

JACKSON — Marshall opened Monday night’s wrestling triangular in Jackson with a 47-21 win over Worthington.

The Tigers started the dual with a 33-0 lead through the first six weight classes, thanks in part to pins by Hsa Law Eh, Connor Roth and Noah Blomme. Spencer Wambeke added a fourth pin for Marshall later in the match.

It was a milestone evening for a pair of Tigers Monday night. Hsa Law Eh earned his 150th career win and Dylan Louwagie recorded his 60th career win during the triangular.

Marshall will travel to Redwood Valley on Thursday.

Lakeview 62,

MCC 55 (OT)

SLAYTON — Extra time was needed to finish it off, but an 8-1 run in overtime gave Lakeview a 62-55 win over Murray County Central on Monday night.

Shelby Gravley was a force in the paint for Lakeview, finishing with 26 points and 14 rebounds.

Savanna Louwagie added 16 points in the win.

Shelby Christensen led MCC with 15 points and six rebounds, while Brianna Schmitz added 14 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Lakeview (15-3) will host Benson today while MCC (3-11) will host Red Rock Central today.

DAWSON — Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley defeated Dawson-Boyd 61-40 on Monday night.

Avery Bartunek led the way for DB with 17 points, eight rebounds and six steals.

Amelia Olson added 10 points and seven rebounds in the loss, while Alexis Breitenstein scored 10 points.

DB (0-14) will host Renville County West on Friday.

WABASSO — Wabasso earned a 74-65 win over Canby on Monday night.

Will Carlson led the way for Wabasso with 19 points.

Isaac Kronback added 17 points and seven rebounds in the win, while Colby Wall finished with 13 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Cole Frericks did not miss a shot from the field and scored 14 points for the Rabbits.

Wabasso (8-10) will travel to Central Minnesota Christian today while Canby (2-13) will travel to Lac qui Parle Valley today.
