SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: NSIC announces preseason indoor track & field polls

BURNSVILLE — The Southwest Minnesota State University men’s indoor track & field team was picked to finish 11th out of 12, while the SMSU women’s team was picked to finish 15th out of 15, in the annual Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches’ poll released on Thursday.

SMSU enters its seventh season of men’s and women’s indoor track since reinstating the program in February of 2013. Minnesota State was the top choice in the men’s preseason poll, while the University of Mary was the top pick in the women’s poll.

SMSU sophomore sprints Kyle Felling, from Belgrade, and junior thrower Connor Wigand, from Manitowoc, Wis., were both named an NSIC “Athlete to Watch”.

SMSU junior thrower Rebecca Manteuffel, from Cologne, and freshman hurdles/jumps Isatu Shirek, from Thompson, N.D., were both named an NSIC “Athlete to Watch”.

The SMSU indoor track & field teams open the 2019-20 indoor season today and Saturday at the South Dakota State Open. The 2020 NSIC Indoor Championships will take place on Feb. 28-29 in Mankato.
