SMSU WOMEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING: SMSU concludes busy weekend with another strong day in the pool

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Southwest Minnesota State women’s swimming & diving team concluded a busy two days with a strong showing at the Morningside College Invitational on Saturday.

SMSU finished today’s meet with 436 points to finish in fourth place out of 10 teams. Augustana won the invite with a total of 751 points.

MacKenzie Kallevig paced the Mustangs with a first place finish out of 32 competitors in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 54.94. Teammate Addi Schroeder closed the race in fourth place with a time of 56.57.

Kallevig also won the 200 yard freestyle with a pool record time of 1:59.14, while also picking up a second place finish out of 22 in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.44. Schroeder placed ninth in the 50 free at 26.18.

Natalie Bohnert and Madison Hubert finished 1-2 out of 40 in the 100 yard backstroke with Bohnert earning a time of 1:03.37, while Hubert was right behind at 1:03.47. Bohnert and Hubert also finished fourth and fifth respectively out of 23 competitors in the 200 yard backstroke with times of 2:17.11 and 2:18.64.

Annika Freiburger won the 400 yard individual medley at 4:47 with teammate Gabriela Reis earning third place at 5:12.86. Freiburger also recorded a time of 1:10.89 to place fourth in the 100 yard breaststroke

Freiburger, Schroeder and Reis all earned top eight finishes in the 200 yard breaststroke.

Southwest Minnesota State returns to dual action on Friday hosting Northern State at the Don Palm Natatorium starting at 5 p.m.
