SMSU CROSS COUNTRY: SMSU runs at NIACC Invite on Friday

MARSHALL — The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s and men’s cross country teams return to action on Friday afternoon competing at the North Iowa Area Community College Trent Smith Invitational in Mason City, Iowa.

The women’s 5,000 meter race starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by the men’s 8,000 meter race at 5:15 p.m.

SMSU was originally scheduled to compete at the St. Cloud State Invite on Friday but that meet was canceled due to poor course conditions in Sauk Rapids.

SMSU last competed at the Wayne State Classic, on Sept. 27. Kayla Jasnsky led the women’s team finishing second in the 5K race with a time of 20:02. Clayton Hartle was SMSU’s top finisher in the men’s race covering the 8K course in a time of 28:47.

Friday’s meet is the final tune-up for SMSU before competing at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships on Oct. 26 in Wayne, Neb.
