PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Stifling defense guides Canby to win over Vikings

MINNEOTA — The Canby Lancers have flexed their defensive muscle all season long, holding teams to under 12 points per game entering Thursday’s contest. That continued against No. 3-ranked Minneota, as the Lancers upset the Vikings 8-2.

Sophomore running back Ty Stoks led the Lancers with 118 rushing yards.

Canby scored in the second quarter on a 10-yard pass from Parker Viessman to Kalib Greenman. Viessman finished the game with 51 passing yards.

Conner Sik led Minneota with 71 rushing yards on 12 carries.

The victory marked the first win for Canby over Minneota since 2004.

Canby (5-2) will host MACCRAY on Wednesday while Minneota (6-1) will travel to Yellow Medicine East on Wednesday.

DAWSON — Dawson-Boyd defeated Yellow Medicine East 52-0 on Thursday.

The Blackjacks asked Josh Anyasike to carry the load on offense, and he responded with 207 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. He also caught a 25-yard touchdown pass in the win.

Collin Swedzinski and Brenden Stulz added rushing touchdowns for the Blackjacks, while Stulz recorded 93 yards and a touchdown passing.

Dawson-Boyd (5-2) will travel to Lakeview on Wednesday.

MAYNARD — Russell-Tyler-Ruthton scored early and often to defeat MACCRAY 42-0 on Thursday.

RTR senior quarterback Payton Hess totaled four touchdowns in the win, with two passing and two rushing. Hess finished the game with 92 yards rushing and 50 yards passing, while also returning an interception for a score on defense.

Jonah Christianson caught a touchdown pass from Hess and also ran for a score in the win, accumulating 42 total yards.

RTR (4-3) will host Lac qui Parle Valley on Wednesday.

Sarah Franta was perfect from the service line with one ace, plus recoerded a team-high 15 digs.

Wabasso (7-17) will travel to Canby on Monday.
