PREP SOFTBALL: 2019 Marshall Independent Softball All-Area First Team
MARSHALL – The Marshall Independent sports staff is pleased to announce the 2019 Marshall Independent All-Area Softball team.
Joining Dawson-Boyd senior Mary Bothun on the All-Area Softball First Team are the following eight players: Minneota/Canby senior Sydney Larson, Wabasso senior Jenna Frank, Murray County Central senior Amanda Muecke, Wabasso senior Megan Rothmeier, Minneota/Canby sophomore Abby Hennen, MCC senior Montana Beckmann, Marshall junior Paige Andries and Russell-Tyler-Ruthton junior Kylea Baartman.
Sydney Larson
Sr., M/C
The Minneota/Canby pitching ace finished her senior season with a 14-1 record in the circle for the 18-4 Vikings, recording a 2.37 ERA in 13 starts with 95 strikeouts. At the plate, Larson had a .452 average with 13 extra-base hits (10 doubles, three home runs), 19 RBI and 11 runs scored. It is the third consecutive year Larson has been named to the all-area team.
Jenna Frank
Sr., Wabasso
Frank hit .397 for the Rabbits in her senior season, with nine extra-base hits (five doubles, one triple and three home runs). She also collected 17 RBI. Frank was named to the all-Tomahawk Conference team and was all-state second team this year. It is the second consecutive year Frank has been named to the all-area first team.
Amanda Muecke
Sr., MCC
An ace in the circle for the Rebels, Muecke pitched 131 of the team’s 140 innings, recording a 2.08 ERA with an area-best 111 strikeouts. At the plate, the senior finished with a .324 average along with 17 RBI.
Megan Rothmeier
Sr., Wabasso
Rothmeier collected 32 hits on the year for a .390 average, with 12 of those hits being doubles. She also recorded 17 RBI. The team MVP. Rothmeier was named to the all-Tomahawk Conference team and was all-state second team this year.
Abby Hennen
So., M/C
Abby Hennen finished fourth in the area in batting with a .461 average, striking 35 hits (second-most in area). Her four triples led the area in 2019, while her 11 doubles were tied for second-most among area individuals. Hennen also led the area with 25 RBI and 31 runs scored.
Montana Beckmann
Sr., MCC
Beckmann finished with a .369 average this season, recording 24 hits (three home runs, two doubles). She also drove in 17 RBI and scored five runs to close her senior season.
Paige Andries
Jr., Marshall
Andries led the Marshall offense with a .329 average on 24 hits this season. Eight of her 24 hits were doubles. She also recorded 10 RBI in her junior season.
Kylea Baartman
Jr., RTR
Baartman ended her junior season with a .403, recording 29 hits. She also drove in 10 RBI and scored 10 times for the Knights.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Heidi Boerboom, M/C
Boerboom led the Vikings to an 18-4 finish this season, including a 16-2 record in Camden Conference play. She was named Camden Conference Coach of the Year after the season.
