AREA BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Marshall Junior Legion Black sweeps doubleheader

MARSHALL – The Marshall Junior Legion Black 16U baseball team earned a doubleheader sweep on Sunday against New Ulm Gold, taking the opener 3-2 before winning the second game 5-3.

In Game 1, Cole Felcyn led the way for Marshall with a 3 for 3 day at the plate with three RBI while Chase Douglas added three hits of his own and Charlie Jacobson had a pair of hits.

Felcyn earned the victory on the mound, going 5.1 innings while allowing two runs on four hits.

In Game 2, AJ Toulouse led the way for Marshall with a 1 for 2 day at the plate with two RBI while Spencer Wambeke added a pair of hits and Jack Bly had a hit and an RBI.

Josh Baker earned the victory on the mound, going five innings while allowing three runs on six hits and striking out four.

Marshall Junior Legion Black (4-0) will play in the Legion Wood Bat Classic on Saturday, beginning with a game against BOLD at 10:30 a.m. at Irish Yard.

FAIRMONT — The Milroy Irish went on the road to defeat Fairmont 6-5 on Sunday. Originally scheduled as a shortened game due to a Fairmont doubleheader, the game was deadlocked through seven innings to force an extra inning before the Irish secured the win.

Tyler Patterson went 2 for 4 at the plate for Milroy, including the game-winning RBI hit in the eighth inning.

Derek Riley recorded two hits and scored twice for Milroy, while Jacob Plaetz added a pair of hits in the win.

Tyler Peterson went six innings and struck out three batters to secure the victory.

The Irish (15-2, 12-0 Gopher) travel to Lamberton on Tuesday before hosting Adrian on Wednesday.

HADLEY — Hadley picked up an 11-1 seven-inning win over Adrian on Sunday.

The Buttermakers were able to hit forpower, as they connected on three home runs in the win. Justin Benda had two home runs, while Eric Wieneke added a long ball of his own.

Sam Erickson got the start on the mound in the win.

Hadley travels to Luverne on Wednesday.
