SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: SMSU’s Manteuffel places eighth in the discus, earns All-American honors

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Southwest Minnesota State University sophomore Rebecca Manteuffel became the program’s first-ever NCAA All-American on Friday afternoon earning eighth place in the discus at the NCAA Division II Championships held at Javelina Stadium. The championship is hosted by Texas A&M University, Kingsville.

Manteuffel, who entered the championship with the sixth best mark in Division II, recorded a toss of 49.63m on her first attempt before registering a mark of 50.83m on her second toss. She fouled on her third attempt, but her second toss was enough to advance to the nine-person finals.

On her fourth throw she finished at 49.95, before fouling on her fifth attempt. She closed the day with her second best throw of the day at 50.14m.

It’s the second straight season Manteuffel has competed in the discus at the NCAA Championships. She finished 18th overall last season with a throw of 42.65.

Manteuffel, a native of Cologne, will return to action today as she will compete in the shot put starting at 1:15 p.m. She enters the championship with the 19th best mark in Division II.
