MARSHALL – After having their home meet canceled last year and earlier this season, the Southwest Minnesota State University men’s and women’s track and field team finally returned to the Marshall Regional Track and Field Complex to host the Mustang Twilight on Wednesday afternoon.

The Mustangs made their only home meet count, as SMSU took first with a women’s team score of 137 and a men’s team score of 116. The University of Sioux Falls took second on the women’s side, followed by MSU Mankato, Valley City State and SDSU. On the men’s side, Valley City State took second, followed by USF, MSU Mankato and SDSU.

SMSU coach Dan Allen it was nice to be able to compete against some quality teams on their own track and be able to get in a home meet for their athletes.

“It’s nice; obviously it’s a different week, but the best part about it is it gives us a chance to compete on our home track,” Allen said. “We practice out here every day and getting a chance to race on it and throw and jump makes it a lot of fun for our athletes and I’m glad we were able to make it happen. We had good competition come out and push our athletes and have our athletes push them.”

Allen added he was happy with many of his team’s performances throughout the afternoon.

“I didn’t get much of a chance to see the throws, but I know that there were a lot of PRs over there from a lot of teams, so hopefully a few of those were ours,” Allen said. “On the track side of things, we had a lot of event winners, had a couple of big PRs in the 100 and 200 meters, in the men’s 400, so it was a really good day all around for our crew.”
