PIPESTONE — The Marshall boys and girls golf teams each picked up a win over Pipestone Area and Windom Area at Pipestone Golf and Country Club on Thursday. The Marshall boys won with a team score of 143, followed by Pipestone Area at 169 and Windom Area at 178. The Marshall girls won with a team score of 176, followed by Pipestone Area with a 193 and Windom Area at 196.

The event was originally scheduled as a dual with the Arrows, but the Eagles were added after Tuesday’s postponement of the Marshall dual in Windom.

Mason Plante led all boys golfers with a low round of 35 to lead Marshall. Spencer Ehlers, Landon Frost and Noah Puetz all carded 36s to complete the Marshall score.

According to Marshall boys golf coach Kari Ehlers, the 143 was the second-lowest road nine-hole team score in team history.

“Going into the round, we really talked about hitting greens in order to give ourselves a shot at pars,” she said. “After a good couple of days of practice, we have finally had an opportunity to tweak some people’s drivers and get a good grip on our short game. There is always room to improve in our short games, but we had many less shots in those areas.”

Olivia Peterson led the Tigers and all girls golfers with a career-low round of 36. Rachel Schwarz added a 43, followed by Courtney Toulouse at 46. Ramsey Nelson completed the Marshall score with a 51.

Marshall coach Gretchen Flynn was pleased with the team’s performance despite missing a regular contributor.

“We played shorthanded today with Ashtyn Eben at BPA nationals,” she said. “The other girls stepped up and were able to put in some nice rounds to top both Pipestone and Windom.”

The Marshall girls will compete today at Minnewaska Area, while the boys will return to action Saturday in Fairmont.
