NEW ULM — The Wabasso baseball team scored first on Thursday afternoon, but couldn’t hold the lead as New Ulm Cathedral defeated Wabasso 15-1 in five innings.

Maverick Wagner opened the game with a walk and would score the lone run. Lance Wagner drove him in, finishing 1 for 2 in the loss.

Carter Benz got the start on the mound and struck out three batters over 3 1/3 innings.

Wabasso (0-2) travels to Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Monday.

Cora Eichten and Megan Rothmeier each had a double for the Rabbits in the loss. Cassidy Irlbeck went 1 for 1 with a single and a walk.

Sarah Franta took the loss in the circle.

Wabasso (0-1) will face Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Monday.
