PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Lakers cruise past DB in home opener, 13-3

COTTONWOOD — The Lakeview baseball team opened its season with a six-inning 13-3 win over Dawson-Boyd on Monday afternoon.

The top of the order did damage for the Lakers in the win. Leadoff hitter Aaron Lienemann went 2 for 3 with one RBI and three runs scored, while Tyler Imes followed him by going 2 for 4 with an RBI. In the middle of the Lakeview lineup, Grant Sander, Alex Ross-Bahn and Brennin Aguirre each recorded two RBI.

Imes struck out seven batters over 5 1/3 innings to record the win on the mound.

Dawson-Boyd was held to just two hits in the loss — one apiece from Griffin Johnson and Kolten Lindblad.

Lakeview will travel to Minneota today while Dawson-Boyd will travel to Lac qui Parle Valley this afternoon. Both games were previously scheduled for later in the week, but were moved up due to the weather forecast.

TRACY — After splitting a pair of nonconference games, the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton baseball team opened up Camden Conference play with a 9-0 win over Canby on Monday.

Caleb Nordsiden and Jake Byrne collected a pair of hits to lead the Panthers offense. Jake Tauer and Konnor Zick added triples in the win, while Sawyer Otto and Luc Gervais each recorded doubles.

The Canby offense struggled to get much going. Kalib Greenman went 2 for 4 with a pair of stolen bases in the loss.

TMB starting pitcher Byrne allowed just five hits and struck out nine batters over six innings in the shutout win, while Tauer struck out the side in the seventh inning to preserve the shutout.

Canby used three pitchers in the game, as Evan Stoks, Dylan Bruns and Hunter Cleveland each pitched a pair of innings in the loss.

TMB (2-1, 1-0 Camden) is set to host MACCRAY in Milroy today, while Canby (0-1, 0-1 Camden) is scheduled to travel to Central Minnesota Christian School on Thursday.

RUTHTON — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton baseball team picked up its first win of the season on Monday, defeating Minneota 9-2.

Payton Hess had a strong performance on the mound for RTR, as he finished with seven strikeouts over six innings.

Hess also led the Knights at the plate, finishing 3 for 4 with a trio of doubles, three RBI and two runs scored. Parker Wendland, Kyle Fischer and Collin Johnson each scored and drove in a run during the win.

Thomas Hennen led Minneota, recording a double and a run scored in the loss. Ted Pesch also scored a run, while Tate Walerius recorded the lone RBI for the Vikings.

Minneota (0-1) hosts Lakeview today, while RTR (1-1) is scheduled to host Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Thursday.

Cora Eichten led the Rabbits with 3 hits in the loss. Sarah Franta took the loss on the mound.

Wabasso (0-2) hosts Sleepy Eye today.
