MARSHALL – With a quick scribble of the pen, Jackson Hughes’ next step to his athletic career was complete. The Marshall senior recently signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Rochester Community College.

Hughes said it’s a great feeling to have the day come and is excited for his next chapter.

“It feels great,” Hughes said. “I’m glad that I get to keep going for a couple of more years and see what I can do.”

The past few years, Hughes has helped lead the way for the Tigers on the diamond, including hitting .429 at the plate with 24 total hits and 14 RBI last season.

Hughes added he liked the feel of the campus at RCC along the ability to be able to play baseball for them.

“I liked the school, it was a great campus and I’m going there for generals and play baseball,” Hughes said.

Hughes said his coaches have had a big impact on him and they were always willing to help him prepare for the next stage of his career.

“Coach Pollock is great,” Hughes said. “If I ever needed to get my stuff sent somewhere, he was always there and would get me the information.”

Before he hits the field next year, Hughes still has one final season with the Tiger baseball team. He said he’s looking forward to having a lot of fun with his teammates and hopes they can have another strong season.

“Just to have a lot of fun,” Hughes said. “We had a lot of success last year and we didn’t quite make it to the end, so we’ll see if we make it further this year.”
