SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: SMSU finishes busy weekend with high place winners at Bison Open

FARGO, N.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s and men’s indoor track & field teams completed a busy two days at the highly competitive Bison Open hosted by North Dakota State University on Friday and Saturday.

Kayla Jansky ran 3:12.72 in the 1000 meters to finish fifth overall to pace the Mustang runners.

In the field events, Rebecca Manteuffel finished sixth overall, but first among all Division II athletes, in the weight throw recording a toss of 17.89m. Teammate Norah King finished 15th at 13.98m, while Amanda Flores-Schulte won her flight and placed 16th at 13.73m.

Ashlyn Jones had a personal best 1.58m in the high jump to finish second.

For the men’s team, Kyle Felling placed second in the 400 meters crossing the line at 50.91. Hever Valenzuela ran 1:25.29 in the 600 meters to take fourth place.

Connor Wigand finished with a personal best in weight throw with a eighth place toss of 15.52 meters. He then placed eighth in the shot put, the best among Division II athletes with a throw of 15.48m.

Also with a strong meet was Adarius Gallon with a fourth place mark in the lone jump with a personal best 6.77.

Both SMSU squads return to action this Saturday at the Saint John’s Open in Collegeville.
