PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Rabbits cruise past Springfield, 56-36

WABASSO – The Wabasso girls basketball team defeated Springfield 56-36 on Monday.

Maddy Guetter led the way for the Rabbits with 18 points while Jenna Frank added 13 and Alison Fenger had 11. Guetter led in rebounds with 18 while Megan Rothmeier led in assists with two.

Wabasso will face Cedar Mountain on Friday at 7:15 p.m.

SLAYTON – The Murray County Central girls basketball team defeated Westbrook-Walnut Grove 81-49 on Monday.

Shelby Christensen led the way for the Rebels with 29 points while Montana Beckmann added 24 and Sam Larson had 11. Christensen led in rebounds with nine while Beckmann led in assists with four.

Camryn Bunting led the way for the Chargers with 16 points while Grace Woelber added 13 and Alli Vande Kieft had nine. Bunting led in rebounds with 16 while Woelber led in assists with six.

WWG will face Red Rock Central today at 6 p.m. while MCC will face Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

JANESVILLE – The No. 10-ranked Minneota wrestling team placed second at the Mike Fasnacht Memorial tournament on Saturday with a score of 161. Shakopee took first with a score of 229.5 while Dover-Eyota took third (124.5), Farmington took fourth (117.5) and Chatfield (114.5) took fifth to round out the top five teams.

For Minneota, Shawn Buysse (170-weight class) and Jackson Esping (285-weight class) took first place by decision and a pin, respectively, while Teddy Pesch (132-weight class) and Cole VanOverbeke (152-weight class) took second by decision and Kade Lozinski (120-weight class), Jonah Gruenes (132-weight class), Blake Reiss (138-weight class) and Layne Lozinski (195-weight class) took third by a pin, forfeit, injury default and decision, respectively.

Zack Fier (106-weight class) and Eric Carrasco (113-weight class) took fourth by decision while Josh Laleman (160-weight class) and Barry Gronke (220-weight class) both took fifth by a pin to round out the placements for Minneota.

Minneota will compete on Thursday against Marshall and MAHACA at 5 p.m.
