SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: Mustangs record several strong performances in Mankato meet

MANKATO – The Southwest Minnesota State women’s and men’s indoor track & field teams completed a busy day on Saturday at the Schuck Open hosted by Minnesota State at Myers Field House.

Rebecca Manteuffel had another strong day breaking her own school record in the weight throw with a mark of 18.38m to place second overall. It’s the 11th best toss in Division II this season. She also finished seventh in the shot put with a toss of 13.2m.

Ashlyn Jones recorded a 1.52m mark in the high jump to earn seventh place.

Kayla Jansky ran 1:43.80 in the 600 meters to finish ninth overall, while Denitsa Dobreva also placed ninth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.78.

For the men’s team, Kyle Felling ran 50.92 in the 400 meters to finish in fifth place out of 27 runners. Dylan Pierson also had a strong run in the 1000 meter placing fifth with a time of 2:47.10.

Isaiah Nelson finished fourth in the long jump at 6.48m, while teammate Adarius Gallon placed eighth at 6.35m. Nelson also placed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.38m.

Connor Wigand set a personal best in the shot put to place fourth with a toss of 15.44m.

Southwest Minnesota State returns to action next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2, at the North Dakota State Open in Fargo.
