PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall wrestling takes first place at Parker tournament

PARKER, S.D. – The No. 10-ranked Marshall wrestling team took first place at the Parker (S.D.) tournament with a team score of 270.

Hsa Khee Lar (113-weight class) while Lucas Hodges (132-weight class) and Zach Stahl (182-weight class) took first place by decision, technical fall and injury default, respectively. Dylan Louwagie (106-weight class), Hsa Law Eh (120-weight class) and Jackson Hughes (145-weight class) took second by sudden victory, a pin and decision, respectively. Grant Louwagie (160-weight class), Elijah Sterner (170-weight class), Zack Felcyn (220-weight class) and Cole Felcyn (285-weight class) also all took second by decision, major decision and a pair of decisions, respectively.

Noah Jensen (138-weight class), Jaiden Bahr (195-weight class), Thad Pease (220-weight class) and Jackson Vierstraete (285-weight class) took third by decision and a trio of pins, respectively. Conner Roth (126-weight class) and Tyler Timm (170-weight class) took fourth by injury default and a pin, respectively, to round out the placements for Marshall.

Marshall will compete on Thursday against Quad County at 6 p.m.

Girls Basketball

Ellsworth 59,

WWG 37

ELLSWORTH – The Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls basketball team fell to Ellsworth 59-37 on Saturday.

Grace Woelber led the way for the Chargers with 12 points while Brittany Erickson added 11 and Camryn Bunting had six. Erickson also led in rebounds with six and in assists with five.

WWG will face Hills-Beaver Creek on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Ines Rios Rus led the way for the Rebels with 14 points while Montana Beckmann added eight and Shelby Christensen had seven. Rios Rus led in rebounds with 12 while Christensen led in assists with two.

Karli Arkell led the way for Red Rock Central with 13 points while Haley Simonson added 10 and Nicole Schroepfer had nine. Arkell led in rebounds with 13 while Simonson led in assists with five.

MCC will face Southwest Minnesota Christian on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. while RRC will also face SWC on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Sarah Hansen and Hannah Jelen led the way for the Lancers with eight points each while Marissa Hansen added five. Jelen led in rebounds with eight while Kayelee Johnson led in assists with three.

Canby will face YME on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

BROWERVILLE – The No. 10-ranked Minneota wrestling team went 2-1 at the Browerville Duals on Friday, falling to Foley 33-23 before defeating Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 41-20 and Blackduck/Cass Lake-Bena 52-18.

Against Foley, Zack Fier, Kade Lozinski and Teddy Pesch won by decision while Cole VanOverbeke and Eric Carrasco won by major decision and Shawn Buysse won by a pin to lead the way for Minneota.

Against BBE, Carrasco won by technical fall while Pesch won by decision and VanOverbeke, Justin Johnson, Jackson Esping, Tyler Gronke and Buysse won by a pin and Layne Lozinski won by major decision to lead the way for Minneota.

Against Blackduck-Cass Lake Bena, Fier, Esping, Gronke and Layne Lozinski all won by a pin while Carrasco, Kade Lozinski and Blake Reiss won by decision and Pesch, VanOverbeke and Johnson won by forfeit to lead the way for Minneota.

Minneota will compete on Thursday against Fulda/MCC and Redwood-River Valley at 5 p.m.

Conference meet

TRACY – The Camden Conference dance team competition was held on Friday, and a few area teams came away with some hardware.

In the High Kick category, Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd took first place with a rank score of three while Yellow Medicine East took second with a score of six and Canby/Minneota took third with a score of nine.

In the Jazz category, LQPV/Dawson-Boyd took first with a rank score of three while YME took second with a score of six and Renville County West took third with a score of nine.

All-Conference nominations were also earned at the meet. In the High Kick, Stephanie Birk and Kameron King were the Canby/Minneota representatives while Kylie LaVoy made it for Lakeview. Rachel Hahn, Eden Weber and Laura Baldwin were the representatives for LQPV/Dawson-Boyd while Anna Viergutz and Skyler Corner made it for YME. Joining them were Megan Laughlin and Brooke Deters (BBE/Paynesville), Keyanna Niesen (MACCRAY), Grace Dahlager and Victoria Kramer (RCW) and Jacquelyn Banegas (Worthington).

In Jazz, Birk and Avery Lokken were the representatives for Canby/Minneota while Regan Heuberger made it for Lakeview. Addisyn Oie, Elly Stratmoen and Lydia Aafedt were the representatives for LQPV/Dawson-Boyd while Abby Jaenisch and Becca Donner made it for YME and Kallie Benson made it for Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.
