SMSU SOCCER: SMSU announces seven signings to its program

MARSHALL – Southwest Minnesota State University head women’s soccer coach Erin Kasmarik-Mallett announced Tuesday that seven high school standouts have recently signed letters of intent to continue their academic and soccer careers at SMSU.

Joining the SMSU program for the 2019 season include Amanda Haimes from Ladera Ranch, Calif., Jessica Jugovich from Inver Grove Heights, Mikaela Lawrence from Winterset, Iowa, Ashley Koepp from St. Cloud, Alex Lotts from Champlin, Deanna Roark from Eagle Mountain, Utah, and Mikayla Walters from Apple Valley.

“Each of these young women possess the genuine character and desire for success that we pride ourselves on as a program,” Kasmarik-Mallett said. “We are very much looking forward to the depth and growth they are going to add to our strong group of returning players. We are very excited about the future of our program and can’t wait for these seven new members to arrive in Marshall.”

Haimes, a senior at San Juan Hills High School, is a three-year letter winner at goalkeeper, and set the team record with six shutouts in a single-season. She also helped her team to an undefeated record in league games. Haimes also helped her club team place second in California and win the 2018 National Cup.

Jugovich, a senior forward at South St. Paul High School, twice earned all-conference honorable mention honors. She also played club for REV/Salvo for four seasons. Jugovich is also a four-year letter winner and all-conference honoree in track & field.

Lawrence is a senior defender/midfielder at Winterset High School. She is a four-year letter winner, starter and team captain and helped Winterset-Earlham to the 2016 state tournament. Lawrence begins her senior season in 2019 having scored seven goals and six assists in her career. She also played club for APEX and served as a team captain.

Koepp was a forward/midfield at St. Cloud Apollo High School, and closed her career earning all-conference accolades four times and was a three-time all-area honoree. She finished her career with 43 goals and 40 assists. She is also a four-year letter winner in basketball.

Lotts, a forward, recently completed her senior season at Champlin Park High School. The leading scorer in team history, she was a four-time all-conference honoree and scored 62 goals with 20 assists during her career. A two-time team captain and three-time all-state honoree, she scored 24 goals as a senior and was selected to play in the Minnesota All-Star game.

Roark, a midfielder from Westlake High School, was a three-year letter winner and helped lead her team to the playoffs for the first time and also a playoff victory as a senior. She had a goal and three assists in 2018 and closed her career with seven goals and 10 assists.

Walters, a defender at Eastview High School, was named all-section and all-conference honorable mention as a senior.
