PREP VOLLEYBALL: 2018 Marshall Independent All-Area Volleyball First Team

MARSHALL – The Marshall Independent sports staff is pleased to announce the 2018 Marshall Independent All-Area Volleyball Teams.

Below are the five players joining Minneota senior Lydia Sussner on the All-Area Volleyball First Team.

Maddy Guetter, Sr.

(Wabasso)

The Augustana University signee broke her own school record for single-season kills with 531 kills in 2018 to lead the area, giving her a school record 1,719 career kills. Guetter also recorded 34 aces, 357 digs (seventh-most in area) and 51 blocks in her senior season.

Morgan Cleveland, Sr.

(Canby)

The Canby senior led the Lancers with 67 aces (most in area) and 524 assists, while also tallying 129 kills and 203 digs. Cleveland has committed to play volleyball at Minnesota State University-Moorhead beginning in 2019.

Morgan Kockelman, Sr. (Minneota)

The state-champion setter from Minneota finished second in the area with 1,285 set assists as a senior, also recording 43 kills, 258 digs and 15 aces for the Vikings.

Logan Sherman, Jr.

(Marshall)

Sherman contributed to the Marshall attack in a number of areas. The junior recorded 241 assists along with 520 set assists, while also recording 30 aces, 165 digs and 44 blocks.

Erica Jones, Sr.

(Marshall)

Jones finished the 2018 campaign third on the Tigers in kills with 234 and was second on the team in digs with 277. Jones also recorded 57 aces, which ranked third-best in the area.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Hayley Fruin,

Minneota

In her second season as head coach at Minneota, Hayley Fruin led the Vikings to their second consecutive state championship game. This year, the Vikings ended the season with the Class A state title and a 36-1 record.

2018 Area Volleyball 2nd Team

Samantha Edwards, Sr.

TMB

Edwards finished the 2018 season leading the Panthers with 338 kills (fourth-most in area). She added 113 digs and 34 aces, while also recording 60 blocks to finish eighth in the area.

Haley Muenchow, So.

RTR

The younger Muenchow led the Kinights attack with 292 kills, which placed her fifth in the area. She also finished third in the area in blocks with 87, while adding 41 digs.

Bria Morris, Jr.

Marshall

The Marshall junior led the Tigers with 344 kills, which was the third-best total in the area. She also recorded 101 digs and 20 blocks on the season for the state runner-up Tigers.

Natalee Rolbiecki, Fr.

The young freshman finished 2018 sixth in the area with 290 kills for the state champion Minneota Vikings. Rolbiecki added 263 digs and 18 blocks on the season.

Jenna Frank, Sr.

Wabasso

Frank facilitated the Wabasso offensive attack all season long, finishing with 848 set assists. She added 29 aces on offense, while contributing defensively with 183 digs and 63 blocks.

Alyssa Groves, Jr.

MCC

Groves led MCC with 285 kills in 2018, placing her seventh in the area. The MCC junior also recorded 55 blocks.

2018 Area Volleyball Honorable Mention Team

Abby Hennen, So.

Minneota

The sophomore defensive specialist led the area with 676 digs in 2018. Hennen also recorded 61 kills and 25 aces for the Minneota Vikings en route to a 36-1 record and the Class A title.

Jordyn Hilgemann, So.

Marshall

Hilgemann recorded 202 kills as a sophomore, while also finishing second in the area with 63 aces. Hilgemann also recorded 80 blocks, which led the Tigers and placed her fifth in the area in that category.

Karoline Dahl, So.

Dawson-Boyd

Karoline Dahl led Dawson-Boyd with 270 kills to place ninth in the area. The sophomore also recorded 176 digs, 30 aces and 34 blocks.

Mckinley Schreurs, So.

RTR

The RTR setter ended her sophomore season with a team-high 789 assists. She also recorded 67 kills, 17 aces, 189 digs and 40 blocks for the Knights.

McKenna Nelson, Sr.

Wabasso

Nelson finished 2018 with 125 kills. Her 281 digs were 12th-most in the area, while also recording 35 aces and 26 blocks.

Montana Beckmann, Sr.

MCC

Beckmann ended her senior season with 115 kills, while also recording 32 aces and 253 digs for the Rebels.
