PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Tigers go 4-0 over the weekend at the Dassel-Cokato Invite

DASSEL – The No. 12-ranked Marshall wrestling team picked up four victories on the weekend at the Dassel-Cokato Invite Saturday, as the Tigers defeated Albany (65-12), Big Lake (48-28), Elk River (61-3) and No. 6-ranked Foley (35-26).

Against Albany, Dylan Louwagie, Andrew Williams, Coltyn Marcy, Lucas Hodges, Grant Louwagie and Thad Pease all won by pin while Hsa Khee Lar and Noah Jensen won by technical fall and Hsa La Eh won by decision to lead the way for the Tigers.

Against Big Lake, Hsa La Eh, Hodges, Grant Louwagie and Zach Felcyn won by pin while Hsa Khee Lar won by decision and Jensen won by major decision to lead the way for the Tigers.

Against Elk River, Dylan Louwagie, Hsa La Eh, Jensen, Grant Louwagie, Zach Felcyn and Jaiden Bahr all won by pin while April Htoo, Hodges, Jackson Hughes, Elijah Sterner and Cole Felcyn all won by decision to lead the way for the Tigers.

Against Foley, Dylan Louwagie, Hsa La Eh and Zach Stahl won by pin while Hsa Khee Lar and Jensen won by major decision and Hughes, Grant Louwagie and Bahr won by decision to lead the way for the Tigers.

Marshall will compete on Tuesday against Canby at 6 p.m.

Girls Hockey

Waseca 1

WASECA – Highlighted by four third-period goals, the Marshall girls hockey team defeated Waseca 6-1 on Saturday.

After the Bluejays got on the board with a goal in the first period, the Tigers quickly responded to start the second with a goal from Leah Schaefer on the assist from Maddy Penske just 50 seconds in to tie things up at 1-1. Marshall then got another goal from Tessa Gannott just past the midway mark of the second period on the assist from Sydney Mauch to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead going into the third.

It was in the final period where the Marshall offense came alive. Mauch scored a goal just 36 seconds into the frame before Kaitlyn Timm found the back of the net on the assist from Emelia Barker to push the Tigers’ lead to 4-1. Timm then scored again near the midway point of the third to make it 5-1 on another assist from Mauch before Jadyn Briffet got the assist from Penske and found the back of the net to bring it to the 6-1 final.

Marshall outshot Waseca 42-17 on the game. Emma Klenken earned the victory in net for Marshall, stopping 16 shots.

Marshall will face Fairmont on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

WASECA – The No. 14-ranked Marshall boys hockey team defeated Waseca 3-0 on Saturday.

After neither team could find scoring in the first period, the Tigers were able to strike first in the second when Mason Plante found the back of the net on a short-handed goal to make it 1-0. Plante then added his second goal of the night on the assist from Joe Archbold and Kaleb Welvaert near the midway point of the frame to give Marshall a 2-0 lead after two periods.

In the closing minutes of the third, Plante got the assist from Welvaert and got a shot past the goaltender again to cap off the hat trick and seal the 3-0 shutout victory for the Tigers.

Waseca outshot Marshall 39-21 on the game. Dominik Caspers earned the victory in net for Marshall, stopping all 39 shots he faced.

Marshall will face Fairmont on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Noah Peutz led the way for the Tigers with 18 points while Matt Onken added 14 and Matt Hmielewski had 12. Onken, Peutz and Trey Steinbach all led in rebounds with six each while Bryce Lance led in assists with six.

Marshall will face Jackson County Central on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

ELLSWORTH – The Murray County Central girls basketball team defeated Ellsworth 60-31 on Friday.

Ines Rios Rus led the way for the Rebels with 24 points while Montana Beckmann added 13 and Amanda Muecke had 11. Rios Rus led in rebounds with nine and in steals with six while Morgan Clarke added five steals.

MCC will face Hills-Beaver Creek on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
